Blue Jays' Kazuma Okamoto: Drives in two runs Tuesday
Okamoto went 1-for-4 with a two-run single during the Blue Jays' 3-0 win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Okamoto put the Blue Jays on the board in the third inning, driving home two runs after smacking a single off Payton Tolle. After a slow start to his MLB career, Okamoto has looked more comfortable at the plate over his last 10 outings, going 10-for-34 (.294) with three home runs, nine RBI, seven runs scored and a 5:10 BB:K over that span.

Blue Jays' Louis Varland: Dominates BoSox for fourth save
Varland collected his fourth save of the season in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Red Sox, striking out the side in a perfect ninth inning.
The Blue Jays called on Varland for the save opportunity for a fourth consecutive time. The 28-year-old right-hander didn't disappoint, getting each batter he faced to strike out swinging while tossing 13 strikes on 15 pitches. Varland has recorded two strikeouts or more in four of his last five outings and sits at 0.56 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 26:4 K:BB across 16 innings this season. He's Toronto's clear closer, though Jeff Hoffman didn't have a bad night for himself either, striking out two batters while earning a hold for his efforts in the seventh frame.

Blue Jays' Trey Yesavage: Goes 5.1 scoreless frames in return
Yesavage (1-0) earned the win against the Red Sox on Tuesday, allowing four hits while striking out three across 5.1 innings. He did not issue a walk.
Yesavage was activated off the 15-day IL ahead of Tuesday's start following his recovery from a right shoulder impingement. He gave up three hits through the first two innings but kept the Red Sox off the board, and Yesavage dominated the rest of the way, retiring 11 of the last 12 batters he faced before being lifted in the sixth. He was limited to 74 pitches (50 strikes) and generated only five whiffs, but Yesavage's performance in his first major-league game of the season was encouraging after posting an 8.59 ERA and 1.77 WHIP across 14.2 innings in five minor-league rehab outings. His next turn in the rotation is slated for this weekend on the road against the Twins.

Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Good to go Tuesday
Gimenez (undisclosed) is starting at shortstop and batting ninth Tuesday against the Red Sox.
The 27-year-old has been "banged up" and sat out the past two games but is ready to rejoin the lineup Tuesday versus Boston. Gimenez has enjoyed a hot start to the season with three homers, four steals and a .287/.313/.468 slash line in 100 plate appearances.

Blue Jays' George Springer: Targeting Wednesday return
Manager John Schneider said Springer (toe) hit and ran on the field again Tuesday and is likely to be activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Springer has been sidelined for the past two-plus weeks due to a fractured left big toe, but it appears he'll rejoin the Blue Jays on Wednesday, assuming he can avoid a last-minute setback. Prior to the injury, the veteran outfielder was in the midst of a slow start to the campaign with two homers and a .185/.290/.370 slash line in his first 14 games.

Blue Jays' Chase Lee: Optioned to Triple-A
The Blue Jays optioned Lee to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.
He's being sent down to accommodate the return of Trey Yesavage (shoulder). Lee's stint in the majors lasted just one day, and he was charged with one run over 1.1 innings in a relief outing Monday versus the Red Sox.

Blue Jays' Trey Yesavage: Activated ahead of season debut
The Blue Jays activated Yesavage (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.
Yesavage is set to make his season debut Tuesday against the Red Sox after getting a late start to the season due to a right shoulder impingement. The right-hander held an 8.59 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in four rehab starts, though he did strike out 22 batters across 14.2 innings. Yesavage threw 64 pitches in his final rehab outing, so he will not be ready for a full workload Tuesday.

Blue Jays' Dylan Cease: Falters late in loss
Cease (1-1) took the loss against Boston on Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings.
Cease got through three scoreless frames before things unraveled for him. He gave up a run in the fourth, two more in fifth and another in the sixth before being pulled. The veteran righty induced a decent 13 whiffs, but his five punchouts were his fewest in a start so far this season. Cease still ranks second in MLB with 49 punchouts and has a 2.87 ERA through 31.1 innings, so the beginning of his Toronto tenure has been successful overall. His next start is projected to be a road tilt in Minnesota.

Blue Jays' Eric Lauer: Could get another shot in rotation
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Lauer is an option to start Wednesday's game versus the Red Sox in place of the injured Max Scherzer (forearm/ankle), Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
The Blue Jays announced over the weekend that Lauer would shift to the bullpen to accommodate the return of Trey Yesavage (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list. Lauer has yet to make a relief appearance since that announcement, and he could immediately slide back into the rotation when Scherzer's turn comes up. Any reappointment to the rotation could be short-lived for Lauer, however, with Jose Berrios (elbow) nearing a return from the injured list. The left-handed Lauer owns a 6.75 ERA and 1.54 WHIP alongside a 19:12 K:BB across 22.2 innings this season.

Blue Jays' George Springer: Will not need rehab assignment
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Springer (toe) is nearing a return and will not require a rehab assignment, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Springer ran the bases and hit on the field Monday at Rogers Centre and will do the same thing Tuesday. As long as he comes out of that workout with no setbacks, his activation from the 10-day injured list will be imminent. Springer has been sidelined for the last two-plus weeks with a fractured left big toe.

Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: 'Banged up,' but available Monday
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Gimenez is "banged up," but the infielder will be available off the bench for Monday's game against the Red Sox, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Gimenez is out of the lineup for the second straight game, and though Schneider didn't offer any specifics on what's ailing the 27-year-old, the issue appears to be a minor concern. The Blue Jays are facing a left-handed starting pitcher (Ranger Suarez) on Monday, which may have factored into the decision to hold the left-handed-hitting Gimenez out of the lineup. Ernie Clement will slide over from his usual spot at second base to cover shortstop in Gimenez's stead.

Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho: Idle against southpaw
Varsho is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.
The left-handed-hitting Varsho doesn't always sit against left-handed pitching, but he'll hit the bench for the series opener while the Red Sox send southpaw Ranger Suarez to the bump. Myles Straw will fill in for Varsho in center field and will bat leadoff.

Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Remaining on bench Monday
Gimenez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.
The Blue Jays opted to rest Gimenez for Sunday's game against the Guardians and right-hander Slade Cecconi, but the infielder's absence from the lineup Monday appears to be more matchup-related with southpaw Ranger Suarez taking the hill for Boston. The left-handed-hitting Gimenez owns a modest 89 wRC+ for his career versus same-handed pitching and is slashing .182/.250/.182 in 25 plate appearances against them this season.

Blue Jays' George Springer: Runs bases Monday
Springer (toe) ran the bases at Rogers Centre on Monday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
It's likely to be the final step before Springer returns to game action. The bigger question is whether those initial games will come as part of a rehab assignment, or whether the Blue Jays will have Springer skip a rehab stint and immediately stick him back onto the active roster. Springer has been shelved for the last two-plus weeks with a fractured left big toe.

Blue Jays' Chase Lee: Receives first call-up of 2026
The Blue Jays recalled Lee from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.
Lee will join the Blue Jays for the first time this season after failing to win a spot in the Toronto bullpen coming out of spring training. Over nine appearances at Triple-A this season, the right-hander permitted just two earned runs over 13.2 innings, though he dealt with plenty of traffic on the bases (11 hits, nine walks).

Blue Jays' Max Scherzer: Hits shelf with pair of injuries
The Blue Jays placed Scherzer on the 15-day injured list Monday due to right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation.
Scherzer's move to the IL comes three days after he was lit up for seven runs in just 2.1 innings in a loss to the Guardians, which brought his ERA up to 9.64 over five starts on the season. Toronto had been listing Scherzer as its starter for Wednesday's game in Boston, but with the team opting to shelve the veteran rigth-hander, a spot in the rotation could be reopened for lefty Eric Lauer, who was recently moved to the bullpen. Scherzer will be eligible for activation May 10, but the Blue Jays haven't indicated whether he'll be ready to return at this time. For his part, Scherzer doesn't believe he's in line for a long-term absence, as he told Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca that he expects to take the next 5-to-7 days to rest up and heal before resuming a regular throwing program.

Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Three more hits Sunday
Guerrero went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over the Guardians.
It's the third three-hit performance in the last seven games for Guerrero, although only three of his 11 knocks during that span (two doubles and a homer) have gone for extra bases. The first baseman isn't supplying his usual power yet this season with just two home runs and 14 RBI in 27 contests, but his .340 batting average is second in the American League behind Yordan Alvarez's .358 mark, and Guerrero's .426 OBP is third behind Alvarez and Ben Rice.
