  • Dylan Bundy: Brings end to playing career
    By RotoWire

Bundy confirmed Sunday in an interview with Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com that he filed his retirement papers over the winter and has ended his playing career. The No. 4 overall pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, Bundy quickly rose through the Orioles' minor-league system and made his MLB debut as a 19-year-old in 2012, when he emerged as arguably the top pitching prospect in baseball. He would go another four years before he resurfaced in the majors, with Tommy John surgery and a shoulder injury keeping him off the field for all of 2013 and much of 2014 and 2015. Bundy enjoyed improved health from the start of the 2016 season onward, but he never fully regained the velocity he displayed as a prospect and often struggled to keep the ball in the yard. The right-hander ultimately appeared in parts of eight seasons in the majors from 2012 through 2022, posting a 54-65 record, 4.74 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 910.2 innings with the Orioles, Angels and Twins. Bundy had most recently spent time in the Mets organization in 2023, but he had been a free agent since July after he turned in a 10.08 ERA over 25 innings with Triple-A Syracuse prior to being released.

  • Dylan Bundy: Parts ways with Mets
    By RotoWire

The Mets released Bundy on Monday. Bundy joined the Mets on a minor-league deal in late March and was never able to earn a promotion to the big club after posting a 10.08 ERA and 1.96 WHIP over 25 innings in six starts with Triple-A Syracuse before landing on the club's 7-day injured list May 29. Syracuse activated Bundy over the weekend, but he didn't make another appearance before the Mets opted to part ways with the 30-year-old. Bundy will have to settle for another minor-league deal with another organization if he wants to keep his playing career going.

  • Bundy threw a two-inning simulated game Tuesday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Bundy is in the process of getting stretched out after just landing a minor-league contract from the Mets this past Saturday. He should be able to slide into the rotation at Triple-A Syracuse sometime in mid-to-late April and will function as organizational starting depth for New York in 2023.

  • Bundy signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Saturday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. Bundy showed promise with a 3.29 ERA in the shortened 2020 season but followed that up with a 6.06 ERA in 2021 and a 4.89 ERA in 2022, leaving him stuck without a big-league offer. His average fastball velocity dipped to 89.2 mph last season while his strikeout rate fell to 15.8 percent, so he won't be an exciting fantasy option even if injuries ahead of him open up a rotation spot.

  • Dylan Bundy: Team declines option
    By RotoWire

The Twins made Bundy a free agent by declining his 2023 option Monday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. An $11 million option was excessive for the righty, who posted a 4.89 ERA in 140 innings this season and struggles to miss bats with his low-velocity stuff. Bundy should get another chance to vie for an MLB roster spot somewhere next spring, but he'll likely begin the 2023 season as nothing more than a fifth or sixth starter.
