• Dalton Pompey: Released by Angels

  Pompey was released from the Angels' Triple-A affiliate earlier this week, according to MiLB.com's transaction logs. Pompey hit well during his time with Triple-A Salt Lake, slashing .367/.457/.467 over 35 plate appearances. However, the organization decided to part ways with him. Pompey last saw major-league action in 2018, when he logged 10 at-bats with Toronto.

  Pompey recently signed a minor-league contract with the Angels, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. Pompey was let go by Arizona ahead of the 2020 season, but he'll serve as organizational depth for the Angels early in the 2021 minor-league season. The 28-year-old last appeared in the majors with the Blue Jays in 2018 but could be a candidate to return to the big leagues if he's able to find success in the minors.

  Pompey signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday and was assigned to major-league camp, Jamie Campbell of Sportsnet reports. Pompey appeared in 13 games with the Blue Jays over the last two seasons, but he was sidelined for a significant portion of 2019 with a concussion. The 27-year-old will look to take advantage of a fresh start in the desert.

  Pompey cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday. Despite his former prospect hype, it's not particularly surprising that Pompey went unclaimed on waivers, as he's now 26 years old and has yet to establish himself at the highest level. He'll remain in the Blue Jays' organization but doesn't appear to be particularly close to his next big-league opportunity.
