  • Greene will not be on the Rangers' roster to begin the season, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Greene missed several days of Cactus League action due to a broken fingernail, but he still managed to pitch 5.1 spring innings, surrendering two earned runs with a 6:2 K:BB. Greene will presumably exercise the opt-out clause in his contract, but the 35-year-old likely won't receive more than a minor-league deal elsewhere.

  • Greene was removed from Saturday's game against the Dodgers while warming up due to a broken nail on his right middle finger, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. A trainer was looking at Greene's hand and pulled him before Greene got a chance to pitch in Saturday's game, but the issue doesn't appear to be anything too serious. Greene has surrendered one earned run in four innings this spring while striking out five batters and walking one.

  • Greene signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training. Greene, 35, has bounced around a lot over the last couple years, most recently tossing two scoreless frames in 2023 with the Cubs. He'll be in the mix for a bullpen spot in Texas but will most likely be assigned to Triple-A Round Rock to start off the 2024 campaign.

  • Cubs' Shane Greene: Remains in organization
    By RotoWire

The Cubs sent Greene outright to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports. Greene was designated for assignment Wednesday in order to clear a roster spot for Luke Little, and he'll officially remain with the Cubs after clearing waivers. The 34-year-old righty holds a 2.16 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 16.2 innings with Iowa this season, but he will likely finish the season in the minors now that he no longer has a spot on the 40-man roster.
