The Diamondbacks released Ramirez on Saturday. Rather than having him report to Triple-A Reno, the Diamondbacks opted to cut ties with Ramirez when he cleared waivers after being designated for assignment Thursday. The 32-year-old right-hander turned in a 5.22 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 51:26 K:BB while nabbing 11 holds over his 50 innings out of the Arizona bullpen this season prior to losing his spot on the 40-man roster.

Ramirez was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Thursday. After logging back-to-back seasons with a 3.00 ERA in 2020 and 2021, Ramirez has not been able to replicate that success this year. Following his appearance Tuesday that saw him give up three earned runs over one inning, Ramirez's ERA climbed to 5.22. If Ramirez is not claimed off waivers by another team, he could likely finish the season in Triple-A.

Ramirez struck out three over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn his 10th hold in Sunday's 13-1 win over the Phillies. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo planned to use Ramirez during a bullpen day, but his entrance coincided with the highest-leverage spot of the game. The Diamondbacks were ahead 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Philadelphia loaded the bases against Caleb Smith. In came Ramirez, who struck out Nick Castellanos and J.T. Realmuto to squelch the threat. It's been a rocky June for Ramirez, who gave up eight runs, 10 hits and three home runs over his previous four appearances, but the unflappable right-hander looked very much like the trusted reliever that posted a 2.76 ERA over 36 appearances out of Arizona's bullpen in 2021.

Ramirez recorded just two outs and surrendered five runs on five hits and a walk during his relief appearance in Tuesday's 14-8 loss to the Reds. Ramirez served up two of the Reds' five home runs on the night, with both Tommy Pham and Tyler Stephenson taking him deep. Through his first three appearances in June, Ramirez has pitched 2.1 innings while allowing eight runs on nine hits and two walks. The Diamondbacks are unlikely to entrust him with high-leverage work anytime soon.

Ramirez allowed two runs on two hits and hit a batter over two-thirds of an inning in Monday's 5-4 win over Miami. Not only did Ramirez allow two runs of his own, but two inherited runners scored as well in the Marlins' four-run seventh inning. He had made six consecutive scoreless appearances before Monday. Ramirez, a trusted member of the bullpen that typically pitches the last third of games, has a 3.38 ERA, five holds, nine strikeouts and four walks over 10.2 innings.
