  Hendricks completed five innings against Texas in a Cactus League game Friday, allowing one run on six hits and no walks while striking out five batters. Hendricks yielded just one extra-base hit (a double) and didn't issue any free passes. The veteran righty finished spring play with a 2.41 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB over 18.2 innings. Hendricks has posted an ERA of 4.77 or higher and a K/9 of 6.5 or lower in three of his past four regular seasons, so fantasy managers have reason to be wary of rostering him. That said, he consistently posted reliable ratios early in his career, and Hendricks could benefit from a chance of scenery to Los Angeles after spending his first 11 major-league campaigns with the Cubs.

Hendricks was touched up for two runs in the third frame but otherwise kept the Padres off the scoreboard. The veteran lefty has pitched well in his first spring training with the Angels, posting a 2.63 ERA and 11:3 K:BB over 13.2 innings across four starts. Kendricks is penciled in for a starting role at the back of the team's rotation after Los Angeles signed him to a one-year contract last November.

Hendricks looked great in his spring debut, even managing to record more punchouts than innings pitched -- something he did just four times in 29 regular-season appearances last year. Nobody is expecting the veteran right-hander to suddenly evolve into a strikeout machine, but the Angels will likely be happy if he can just eat up innings and serve as a stabilizing presence on a pitching staff that had a collective 4.51 ERA (fifth-worst in baseball) last season. Hendricks struggled himself last year, however, posting a career-worst 5.92 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across 130.2 frames with the Cubs.

  Hendricks agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Angels on Wednesday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com first reported that a deal was close and Sherman has provided the financial details. Hendricks -- who turns 35 next month -- didn't have an ideal walk year with a 5.92 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 87:43 K:BB over 130.2 innings with the Cubs. The Angels will pay a modest sum in hopes that the right-hander can bounce back in 2025.
