  • Torres went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Red Sox. Torres took Cooper Criswell deep in the first at-bat of the game, his third leadoff homer of the season. Torres just barely cleared the right-center field seats on a ball that would have only been a home run at Yankee Stadium. It was his 13th homer of the season, and he snapped a streak of 14 straight games without a blast. Torres has found a home at the top of the Yankees lineup and has been a different player in that spot, hitting .307/.398/.436 in his last 25 games as the leadoff man.

Torres put an end to a month-long power drought that saw him go 25 games without a homer. In that span, he hit .260 and slugged .300, adding just four doubles and eight RBI. The second baseman has been mired in a down year overall, slashing .241/.319/.357 through 124 contests. He's at just 11 homers and 49 RBI in 2024 after posting 25 long balls and 68 RBI in 158 games a year ago.

  • Torres is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Angels. Torres had started in each of the Yankees' last 11 games, but he'll get some rest in the first game of the twin bill. Oswaldo Cabrera will get the nod at second base for the early game, but expect Torres to be back in the lineup and man the keystone in the nightcap.
