Mengden signed a contract with the CTBC Brothers of the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan on Tuesday. It will be Mengden's second stint overseas, as he pitched for the Kia Tigers of the Korea Baseball Organization in 2021. The 30-year-old holds a career 4.65 ERA over parts of six major-league seasons.

Mengden signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Sunday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Mengden began the season on a minor-league deal with the Royals, and he posted a 7.36 ERA and 1.90 WHIP in 14.2 innings over six appearances (three starts) at Triple-A Omaha before being released in late June. However, the 30-year-old was able to land a new contract a few days later.

Mengden re-signed with the Royals on a minor-league contract Wednesday. Mengden saw a little action with the Royals in 2022 but spent the bulk of the season at Triple-A Omaha, posting a 5.20 ERA over 109 innings. He'll head back there to start 2023.

Mengden cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday. Mengden was designated for assignment Friday, and he'll now head back to Omaha after a one-day stint in the majors. He allowed three runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts in a loss versus the White Sox on Thursday. Without a spot on the 40-man roster, it's unlikely Mengden plays much of a role with the big club over the last month of the season.

Mengden was designated for assignment by the Royals on Friday. The decision to remove Mengden from the 40-man roster comes just one day after he was called up to start against the White Sox. He picked up the loss after allowing three earned runs over 2.2 innings and is now headed out of Kansas City. He will likely finish the season in Triple-A should he clear waivers and remain with the organization.
