  • Garrett was diagnosed with a left elbow impingement last week, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garrett missed multiple months of action with a strained left forearm before suffering a setback with his elbow during a bullpen session in September. He is currently going through a throwing progression at the Marlins' spring training complex in Florida, and the setback isn't considered something that will jeopardize his availability for the start of spring training.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Suffers setback
    By RotoWire

Manager Skip Schumaker said Saturday that Garrett experienced discomfort in his elbow during his latest bullpen session, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garrett has been on the injured list since June with a strained left forearm and recently made his third rehab appearance at Triple-A Jacksonville. However, his latest elbow setback may put a dent in his plans to return to Miami before the end of the season. The Marlins will take the lefty in for an MRI, the results of which will help determine whether he can pitch again in 2024.

  • Garrett (forearm) tossed three scoreless innings in his rehab start with Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, striking out three batters while scattering three hits and two walks. Garrett built up to 59 pitches (33 strikes) in the second start of his rehab assignment, after he previously tossed three scoreless innings for Single-A Jupiter on Sept. 5. Per MLB.com, Garrett is scheduled to make another rehab start Tuesday, and assuming he gets stretched out to around five innings and 80 pitches and experiences no physical setbacks, he could be cleared to return from the 60-day injured list thereafter. Garrett has been on the shelf since June 23 with a left forearm flexor strain.

  • Garrett (forearm) is scheduled to make a rehab start with Single-A Jupiter on Thursday, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports. The left-hander progressed to throwing live batting practice over the weekend and has been deemed ready for game action after a bullpen session Tuesday. Garrett is expected to throw about three innings and/or 50 pitches Thursday in the first of what's likely to be a couple rehab starts. He's been on the shelf since mid-June due to a forearm strain.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Throws live BP
    By RotoWire

Garrett (forearm) threw a two innings of live batting practice Saturday, MLB.com reports. The southpaw was expected to toss around 35 pitches in the workout Saturday, though the Marlins haven't disclosed how Garrett came out of the throwing session. Garrett looks as though he'll have a chance to pitch again for the Marlins in 2024, but he may not have enough time to get fully stretched back out for a starting role. Whether he returns as a starter or reliever, Garrett will likely need to complete at least one or two minor-league rehab appearances before being activated from the 60-day injured list.
