The Astros acquired Trammell from the Yankees on Monday in exchange for cash considerations, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Trammell was just added to the 40-man roster over the weekend to keep him from reaching minor-league free agency and now has been flipped to a new team. The 27-year-old has hit just .167/.270/.363 with a 37.1 percent strikeout rate over parts of four major-league seasons.

The Yankees selected Trammell's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday. Trammell spent most of the 2024 season at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, slashing .256/.381/.488 with 18 homers and 20 steals. He's hit only .167/.270/.363 with a 37.1 percent strikeout rate over parts of four major-league seasons, but the Yankees decided the 27-year-old was worthy of a 40-man roster spot heading into the offseason.

Trammell was outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Trammell cleared waivers after being DFA'd by the Yankees on Saturday and will stick in the team's system at the Triple-A level. Considering he hasn't batted over .200 in the big leagues in his career, Trammell will likely have to light it up in Triple-A to return to the majors.

The Yankees designated Trammell for assignment Saturday. Trammell will be pushed off the 40-man roster in order to create room for Jon Berti (groin) to return from the injured list. The 26-year-old Trammell has now been DFA'd more times (3) than he's reached base (2) this season, though it's possible he gets claimed off waivers once again by a team in need of outfield depth.

The Yankees claimed Trammell off waivers from the Dodgers on Thursday. The Dodgers DFA'd Trammell on Tuesday, but he will retain a spot on a 40-man roster as he moves to New York. The 26-year-old doesn't have any minor-league options remaining, so he will take a spot on the Yankees' bench and add to the team's outfield depth. Kevin Smith was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
