The Hiroshima Carp of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball have re-signed Hearn to a one-year contract, Yahoo Japan reports. Hearn excelled in his first season with the Carp, posting a 1.29 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 26:7 K:BB over 35 innings. While the 30-year-old might have been able to field some interest from major-league clubs, he's elected to remain in NPB for another year.

Hearn signed with the NPB's Hiroshima Carp on Saturday. Hearn logged a hefty 11.40 ERA and 2.07 WHIP across 15 innings between Atlanta, Kansas City and Texas last season. His numbers improved to a 3.33 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in Triple-A, but he'll opt to play in Japan rather than wait for a minor-league offer from an MLB team.

Hearn cleared outright waivers Thursday and elected to become a free agent. Hearn is off the 40-man roster in Kansas City and will head to the open market. The 29-year-old left-hander was lit up for 19 earned runs over 15 major-league innings this season while bouncing between three different organizations.

Hearn was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. Hearn has an 11.40 ERA over 15 innings between Atlanta, Texas and Kansas City this season, and he's given up seven earned runs in eight outings since joining the Royals. The club selected Steven Cruz's contract from Omaha in a corresponding move.

Kansas City recalled Hearn from Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. Hearn was acquired from Atlanta on July 30 and will now get a look out of Royals' bullpen. The 28-year-old left-hander has surrendered 12 earned runs in just 7.1 innings of work this season at the major-league level.
