Sweeney isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game versus the White Sox. Sweeney will get a chance to clear his head during Saturday's contest after going just 1-for-14 with four strikeouts over his last four games. While he rests, Zach McKinstry will fill in as Detroit's shortstop and bat eighth.

Sweeney went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Rockies. Sweeney capped off a six-run first inning with a three-run shot, his fourth home run in 21 games since making his MLB debut on Aug. 16. The 24-year-old has some offensive upside, and with Javier Baez (hip) out for the season, Sweeney is getting an extended look at shortstop. Baez has struggled since coming over to Detroit and will be 32 when the 2025 season gets underway, so Sweeney could take the job and run with it, though Baez is still owed $73 million through 2027, which could complicate the situation.

Sweeney went 4-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional RBI, a walk, one stolen base and two total runs scored in Sunday's 9-1 win over the Athletics. Sweeney did a little bit of everything in the best game of his young major-league career. He opened the scoring with a third-inning solo shot and added an RBI single in the fourth. This was the second multi-hit effort in 19 games in the majors for the shortstop. He's now batting .236 with three homers, nine RBI, five runs scored, two steals and two doubles over 58 plate appearances.
