Peters elected free agency Oct. 6. The 30-year-old lefty will presumably have to settle for a minor-league deal in free agency this winter. He logged 22 appearances (four starts) for Pittsburgh in 2022, submitting a 4.58 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 26:17 K:BB in 39.1 innings.

Peters cleared waivers Saturday and was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. He was designated for assignment earlier this week and went unclaimed. Peters has a 4.58 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 26:17 K:BB in 39.1 innings through 22 MLB appearances this year.

Peters was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Thursday. Peters hasn't played in a major-league game since Aug. 3 and has now returned from his rehab assignment for his left elbow. However, the Pirates placed him on waivers after his activation. The 30-year-old lefty has a 4.58 ERA and 1.32 WHIP on the season, so he's a candidate to be claimed by another team looking for another arm in their bullpen.

Peters (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Altoona on Friday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. Peters resumed throwing in late August and has been cleared to return to game action in the minors. The southpaw has been sidelined since Aug. 4 due to his elbow injury, so it's possible that he'll require more than one rehab appearance prior to rejoining the Pirates' bullpen.

Peters (elbow) threw in Philadelphia on Friday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. It's not yet clear whether Peters threw off a mound, but this is confirmation he's been cleared to resume a throwing program. A timetable for his return isn't yet known, but manager Derek Shelton hopes that the southpaw will be able to rejoin the Pirates' bullpen prior to the end of the regular season.
