  • Bryan Garcia: Cut loose by Houston
    By RotoWire

The Astros released Garcia on June 26. Garcia made four starts in the big leagues for Detroit in 2022, but after landing in Houston in February on a minor-league deal, he never pitched well enough at Triple-A Sugar Land to earn a look with the Astros. Over his 49 innings in the Pacific Coast League, Garcia pitched to a 6.98 ERA, 2.14 WHIP and 39:45 K:BB.

  • Garcia was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Astros on Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Garcia has allowed just two runs over 12.1 innings this spring but still finds himself on the outside looking in for a roster spot. It's not clear whether the 27-year-old will be used as a starter or reliever -- or both -- at Triple-A Sugar Land.

  • Garcia agreed to a minor-league contract with the Astros on Tuesday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Garcia posted a 3.54 ERA in four starts with the Tigers last season, though he did also issue 10 walks over his 20.1 total big-league frames. He surrendered 25 free passes in 39.1 innings of relief with Detroit in 2021, spoiling a promising showing from the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. The 27-year-old right-hander will likely be viewed as organizational bullpen depth leading into Astros camp.

  • Tigers' Bryan Garcia: Sent to Triple-A
    By RotoWire

Garcia cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday. Garcia joined Detroit for a start during the final week of the season, and he picked up the win against Seattle after he allowed three earned runs over 6.2 frames. He pitched well in limited action at the big-league level last year and had a 3.54 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 20.1 innings.

  • Garcia (2-0) earned the win over the Mariners on Monday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 6.2 innings. Garcia was called up earlier in the day to make his first major-league start since Aug. 15. He allowed a run in the first frame but bounced back by keeping Seattle off the scoreboard over the next three innings. The right-hander yielded another run in the fifth and departed with two outs in the seventh, after which one more run was posted to his final line. Garcia finished with a season-best six punchouts and his second quality start of the campaign. This was his first season working as a starter in the majors, and he finished with a respectable 3.54 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17:10 K:BB over 20.1 innings.
