Brewers general manager Matt Arnold revealed Thursday that Contreras playing through a minor knee sprain during the team's wild-card series loss to the Mets, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports. Contreras didn't have to miss any time because of the injury, but it did force a move from catcher to the designated hitter spot in Game 3 of the series. He will not require surgery on the knee and is expected to be fine by the time spring training rolls around with an offseason of rest.

Contreras is absent from Sunday's lineup against the Mets. Contreras will rest for the regular-season finale, as Eric Haase starts behind home plate and bats fifth. Unless he pinch hits Sunday, Contreras will end his second regular season with the Brewers having slashed .281/.365/.466 with 23 home runs and 92 RBIs (both career highs) across 679 plate appearances.

Contreras (finger/hip) is in the lineup as the designated hitter for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. The 26-year-old is said to be dealing with lingering finger and hip issues, but he will tough it out Sunday with the help of the DH tag. Milwaukee has already secured the NL Central, so Contreras could perhaps see additional down time over the final week of the season. That said, he's been a workhorse and will likely push to play as much as the team will let him in preparation for the playoffs.

Contreras was held out of Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks due to finger and hip injuries, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Contreras' injuries appear to be minor and he wanted to play Saturday, but the Brewers will rest the 26-year-old catcher for at least one contest. He could be back as soon as Sunday for the series finale, but with the Brewers scheduled for an off day Monday, he could be held out for additional rest until the start of the upcoming road series against the Pirates on Tuesday. Since Sept. 1, Contreras has slashed .286/.397/.500 with three home runs and 12 RBI across 69 plate appearances.

Contreras isn't in the Brewers' lineup Saturday versus Arizona. Contreras will get a chance to catch his breath Saturday after going 4-for-5 with a two-run homer in Friday's loss. Eric Haase will fill in behind the plate and bat ninth.
