  • Angels' Jose Soriano: MRI returns clean
    By RotoWire

Soriano had an MRI after experiencing discomfort in his pitching elbow and shoulder, and the results came back clean, per MLB.com. Soriano's placement on the injured list in mid-August was said to be due to right arm fatigue, and the Angels organization has indicated that the hurler isn't dealing with a serious injury. The clean results of the MRI seem to back that up, though the right-hander's transfer to the 60-day IL on Sept. 7 officially ended his 2024 season. Unless he has a setback, Soriano should be ready for spring training in 2025.

  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Won't return in 2024
    By RotoWire

The Angels transferred Soriano (arm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Saturday. Soriano hit the IL on Aug. 17 with arm fatigue, and his move to the 60-day IL makes him ineligible to return in 2024. The 25-year-old made 22 appearances (20 starts) for the Halos, logging a 3.42 ERA and a 97:45 K:BB across 113 innings.

  • Angels general manager Perry Minasian said last weekend that the the team hasn't yet decided if Soriano (arm) will be shut down from pitching this season, per MLB.com. Soriano said when he was placed on the IL following his Aug. 16 start that he doesn't believe he's dealing with a serious injury, and there's been no evidence to contradict that assessment. However, the right-hander has already blown past his previous professional high of 82.1 innings by tossing 113 frames this season and indicated that he was feeling arm fatigue before landing on the injured list. The Angels, who are well out of the playoff race, may opt to play it safe and keep him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign. Soriano figures to be a key part of the team's starting rotation next year regardless of whether he returns to action in 2024.

  • Soriano allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out five over 3.1 innings in a no-decision versus Atlanta on Friday. Soriano had quality starts in his first two outings of August after a tumultuous July, but he stumbled against Atlanta. He needed 76 pitches (45 strikes) to record 10 outs in an inefficient appearance that also saw him walk multiple batters for the fifth time in six outings. Soriano is now at a 3.42 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 97:45 K:BB through 113 innings over 22 outings (20 starts) this season. There was no injury reported, so Soriano is tentatively lined up to make his next start at Kansas City.

  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Sharp versus Nats
    By RotoWire

Soriano didn't factor into the decision Friday against Washington, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out seven. After allowing a run on a pair of hits and a walk in the first inning, Soriano proceeded to blank the Nationals over his final five frames, allowing just two additional hits. The 25-year-old has held opponents to one run or fewer in four of his last five outings. His ERA is down to 3.36 on the season with a 1.19 WHIP and 92:42 K:BB across 109.2 innings. Soriano's currently in line for a home matchup with Atlanta in his next outing.
