  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Moves to 60-day IL
    By RotoWire

The Marlins transferred Nardi (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Saturday. Nardi was initially deactivated Aug. 24, so his move to the 60-day IL will officially rule him out for the rest of the season. The 26-year-old southpaw will close the book on 2024 with a 5.07 ERA and 1.25 WHIP alongside a 70:18 K:BB across 49.2 innings.

  • The Marlins placed Nardi on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Thursday, due to a left elbow injury. It's unclear when Nardi picked up the injury, though he did get roughed up against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, when he gave up two runs on two hits and one walk while recording just one out. Prior to Wednesday, Nardi recorded six holds in his last 14 outings with a 3.29 ERA and 0.95 WHIP across 13.2 innings. Miami recalled right-hander George Soriano from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move.

  • Nardi collected his 12th hold of the season in Wednesday's win over the Rays, walking one and striking out three in a scoreless sixth inning. The southpaw was considered the favorite to take over closing duties for the Marlins after Tanner Scott was traded to the Padres, but instead manager Skip Schumaker called on Nardi in the sixth inning Wednesday to protect a 4-2 lead. Miami wound up adding to its lead in the seventh, eliminating a potential save chance, but it still wasn't encouraging usage for any fantasy GMs hoping Nardi will pick up saves down the stretch. Anthony Bender, another potential closing option, was called on in the eighth inning after the lead was extended to 6-2 while Calvin Faucher worked the ninth, leaving the bullpen picture for the Marlins very murky.

  • Nardi might step into the closer role if Tanner Scott is traded, Kaushik Sampath of the Miami Herald reports. Nardi had a brutal start to the season, getting tagged for eight runs in his first four appearances, but since then the lefty has produced a palatable 3.50 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 47:10 K:BB through 36 innings. Scott becomes a free agent in the offseason and is almost certain to be dealt by next week's trade deadline, and with A.J. Puk now in Arizona, the path to the ninth inning could be fairly clear for Nardi. Huascar Brazoban could also be in the mix for closing duties in the wake of a Scott trade.

  • Nardi picked up his seventh hold of the season Sunday, giving up a hit and striking out a batter to record the final out of the seventh inning. The southpaw has overcome some early season struggles and hasn't walked a batter in 12 straight appearances, posting a 3.72 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 10:0 K:BB through 9.2 innings over that stretch. Nardi's seven holds ties him with Anthony Bender for the team lead, and if closer Tanner Scott gets dealt before the trade deadline, the duo would still represent the top options to step into ninth-inning duty for the Marlins.
