Diehl was released by the Guardians on Wednesday. Diehl has spent all of 2023 at Triple-A Columbus, where he posted a 6.89 ERA and 35:20 K:BB over 32.2 innings. The lefty has had gaudy strikeout totals at times in the minors but has managed just a 9.47 ERA and 15:6 K:BB over 19 frames at the major-league level.

Diehl was reassigned to minor-league camp Sunday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Diehl signed as a non-roster invitee in February and didn't allow a run in four appearances during spring training, but he wasn't able to make Cleveland's Opening Day roster. The left-hander has a 9.47 ERA in 21 career big-league outings, and he's unlikely to be more than a low-leverage option should he see the majors this season.

Diehl signed a minor-league contract with the Guardians on Tuesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Diehl has received an invitation to major-league spring training. The 28-year-old has seen action in 21 appearances at the big-league level across parts of three seasons, posting a 9.47 ERA. He'll give the Guardians some left-handed relief depth.

Diehl elected free agency Sunday. Diehl made five relief appearances with the Reds earlier in 2022, but he never made it to the big leagues after May and was dealt to the Mets in July. Over his 16.1 innings at Triple-A Syracuse in the Mets organization, Diehl posted an 8.82 ERA and 1.99 WHIP.

Diehl and Tyler Naquin were traded from the Reds to the Mets on Thursday in exchange for Jose Acuna and Hector Rodriguez, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Diehl began the season pitching out of the big-league bullpen for Cincinnati but was designated for assignment after allowing seven earned runs across his first 5.2 innings. He has pitched with Triple-A Louisville since, but he may have the opportunity to work low-leverage innings with the Mets.
