Muckenhirn cleared waivers Friday and was sent outright to Triple-A Tacoma. The Mariners DFA'd Muckenhirn on Wednesday, but he will remain in the organization after going unclaimed. The 28-year-old reliever hasn't pitched for Seattle in the majors since being acquired from the Mets in July, and he's put up a 9.35 ERA and 1.95 WHIP through 8.2 frames with Tacoma.

The Mariners designated Muckenhirn for assignment Wednesday. The southpaw will move off the Mariners' 40-man roster with Seattle needing to clear a spot for right-hander Emerson Hancock, whose contract was selected from Double-A Arkansas ahead of his first MLB start Wednesday versus the Padres. Since being acquired in a trade with the Mets on July 3, Muckenhirn has pitched exclusively at Triple-A Tacoma, where he turned in a 9.35 ERA and 1.95 WHIP over 8.2 innings.

The Mariners acquired Muckenhirn from the Mets on Monday in exchange for right-handers Chris Flexen and Trevor Gott, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Seattle optioned him to Triple-A Tacoma. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the Mariners while also sparing Seattle from covering the approximately $4.6 million remaining on the contracts of Flexen and Gott for the 2023 season. A 28-year-old southpaw, Muckenhirn reached the majors for the first time earlier this season and made three appearances for the Mets, but the bulk of his innings have come at Triple-A Syracuse, with whom he's produced a tidy 0.88 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 30.2 innings. Muckenhirn could be one of the top options for a promotion when the Mariners require a lefty arm in the bullpen.

Muckenhirn was designated for assignment Monday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Muckenhirn has allowed four runs in six relief innings with the Mets this season. He's spent most of the year at Triple-A Syracuse, where he's posted a 0.88 ERA but with just 19 strikeouts in 30.2 frames.

Muckenhirn was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. Muckenhirn was called up Friday but was knocked around by the Pirates that same night, giving up three runs on six hits across 2.1 innings of relief. Josh Walker was called up to take his place in the bullpen.
