The Orioles claimed Kriske off waivers from the Reds and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports. The 30-year-old was designated for assignment by the Reds on Thursday, and the Orioles claimed him to bolster their organizational pitching depth. Kriske has spent the full season at Triple-A to this point and has a 3.06 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 73:32 K:BB over 50 innings.

The Reds designated Kriske for assignment Thursday. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the signing of Dominic Smith. Kriske has spent the entirety of the 2024 campaign at Triple-A Louisville, where he's posted a 3.10 ERA and 72:29 K:BB over 49.1 innings. The control has been a problem, but Kriske's swing-and-miss ability could mean some interest on waivers.

The Reds selected Kriske's contract and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville on Monday. Kriske might have had an opt-out clause in his minor-league contract, so the Reds added him to their 40-man roster to prevent him from leaving the organization. The 30-year-old has posted a 3.64 ERA and 40:17 K:BB over 29.2 innings with Louisville this season.

The Reds reassigned Kriske to minor-league camp Monday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Kriske struck out seven and pitched to a 3.60 ERA and 0.80 WHIP over five innings during Cactus League play, but those solid numbers weren't enough for him to win a spot in the Reds' Opening Day bullpen. The 30-year-old journeyman reliever has made 20 career appearances in the big leagues over parts of three seasons with the Yankees, Orioles and Royals, logging a 11.22 ERA over 21.2 innings.

Kriske signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Thursday that includes and invitation to spring training. Kriske allowed three runs over 6.2 innings with the Royals last season before finishing the year in Japan with the Seibu Lions. The 29-year-old holds an ugly 11.22 ERA over 21.2 frames at the major-league level, although he has struck out 25. Kriske will compete for a middle relief role this spring but will likely begin 2024 at Triple-A Louisville.
