Astros' Niuman Romero: Signs minor league contract with Mets on Friday

Niuman Romero agreed to a minor league contract with the Mets on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.Romero most recently played with the Triple-A affiliate of the Athletics, batting .278 in 272 plate appearances. He'll likely serve as organizational depth, but the 30-year-old's ability to play second base, third base, and shortstop as well as a bit of outfield make him an intriguing utility option going forward.
