    Dale Thayer: Opts out of contract

    Dale Thayer opted out of his minor league contract with the Orioles on Saturday, MLB Trade Rumors reports.Thayer, a non-roster invitee, put together a rather pedestrian spring for the Orioles, giving up three runs over six innings. That performance put him on the chopping block at final roster cut downs, and rather than waiting to be released at the end of camp, Thayer opted to pursue free agency early. He may have to settle for work at the Triple-A level before reemerging in a bullpen role for an MLB team.

    Orioles' Dale Thayer: Signs minor league contract with Orioles on Wednesday

    Dale Thayer signed a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training.Thayer spent the past four seasons in the Padres bullpen, but was designated for assignment in August after posting a disappointing 4.06 ERA and 3.6 BB/9 in 37.2 innings. He'll compete for a spot in the bullpen, although he'll have to pitch better than he did in 2015 if he wants to make the 25-man roster.

    Padres RP Dale Thayer makes first rehab appearance Saturday

    San Diego Padres reliever Dale Thayer began his minor league rehab assignment on Saturday. Thayer made the start for Double-A San Antonio, allowing three runs on three hits in one inning of work.  The right-hander has been on the disabled list since June 24--and hasn't pitched since June 16--due to a strained shoulder. It is not known when Thayer will be ready to return to the Padres' bullpen.

    Padres' Dale Thayer earns win in relief

    San Diego Padres reliever Dale Thayer earned his first win of the season, Tuesday, over the Angels.  Thayer came on with one out in the ninth inning and retired the only two batters he faced, to send the game to extra innings. The Padres scored four in the tenth to give him a 1-0 record on the year. Thayer lowered his ERA to 3.00.

Thayer is still not 100 percent but is doing better, Black said. Thayer posted a 4-5 record in 2014 with a 2.34 ERA in 65 1/3 innings.
