Pirates' 1B Aramis Ramirez receives first start at first base
For the first time in his career, Aramis Ramirez started at first base for the Pittsburgh Pirates during Tuesday's game at Cincinnati, reports MLB.com. Ramirez has been working at first base during practice over the last two weeks at the team's request. "It was a big ask," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "I don't know where it's going to go, but I wanted to make sure that we looked at all our options moving forward." Ramirez did not make any errors at first during Tuesday's game, but he went 0 for 4 at the plate. "We need to look at the option, I felt, at this particular point in time in the season," Hurdle said. "If it's good, we have more time to work with it. And if it's not, we know, and we cut the line and we move off."
