Dallas Braden decides to retire
Free agent pitcher Dallas Braden has decided to retire from baseball, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. "There is nothing left in there, it’s just a shredded mess," Braden said Tuesday. "I left my arm on the mound at the Coliseum, and I’m OK with that." Braden had been throwing during the offseason to prepare to hold a showcase for interested team but suffered a setback recently, and an MRI on his shoulder showed too much damage to allow him to continue pitching. Braden ends his career with a 26-36 record along with a 4.16 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 305:141 K:BB ratio in 491 1/3 innings in five seasons with the A's.

Free agent pitcher Dallas Braden plans to pitch in 2014, Yahoo! Sports reports, adding that he's likely to showcase himself later this winter. Braden hasn't pitched since making three starts early in the 2011 season due to shoulder injuries. In five seasons with the A's, he's 26-36 with a 4.16 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 305:141 K:BB ratio in 491 1/3 innings.

Braden becomes free agent
Dallas Braden refused his assignment to Triple-A Sacramento Tuesday, electing to become a free agent. The A's outrighted the left-hander earlier in the week.
