Mariners' Mike Baxter: Signs minor league contract
Mike Baxter signed a minor-league deal with the Seattle Mariners, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.Baxter appeared in 34 games for the Cubs last season, putting together a .246/.348/.263 slash line in 57 at-bats. He's never recorded more than 200 at-bats in any of his six major league seasons, so he'll likely slot in as organizational depth for the Mariners moving forward.

Cubs recall OF Matt Szczur, option Mike Baxter to Triple-A
The Chicago Cubs have recalled outfielder Matt Szczur from Triple-A Iowa prior to Tuesday's game against the Marlins, the team announced. In 13 game since his most recent demotion to Iowa on May 17, Szczur has been hitting .391 (18 for 46) with three doubles, one triple, two home runs and seven RBI. In a corresponding move, the Cubs have optioned outfielder Mike Baxter to Triple-A. Baxter had just one hit in nine at-bats since being recalled on May 19.
