Justin Maxwell has been granted his release from the Marlins, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Coming off a poor season with San Francisco, the 32-year-old Maxwell posted a .227/.320/.545 slash line in 22 at-bats in the Grapefruit League this spring. He'll likely re-sign with the Marlins in a few days if he can't locate a team that wants him on the Opening Day roster.

Maxwell was inserted into the game after left fielder Nori Aoki was forced to leave following the first inning with a leg contusion. Maxwell came up in the fifth inning with the score tied 2-2.
