Esmil Rogers: Signs one-year contract with Korean team
Esmil Rogers signed a one -year, $1.9 million guaranteed contract with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korean Baseball Organization.It was expected that Rogers would follow former Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario to the KBO, and he did so for a much bigger paycheck than he would've received in the United States for his services. The 30-year-old had a 6.27 ERA out of the Yankee bullpen last season, but he'll try to boost his stock in Korea and possibly garner higher demand in the U.S. in the future.

Yankees skipper on RP Esmil Rogers: 'I believe the stuff is there'
New York Yankees reliever Esmil Rogers had a rough outing on Friday against the Angels. Rogers entered the contest in the top of the ninth, with the Yankees leading 8-1. But, he was unable to retire a batter, allowing five runs on four hits and a walk before getting the hook. The Yankees were able to hang on for the 8-7 win. Despite the nightmare outing, manager Joe Girardi is supporting his 29-year-old right-hander. "I believe the stuff is there," Girardi said Saturday, per the Star-Ledger. "We've seen it. He gets swings and misses, and he can get quick outs, and he has a good fastball, and a good curveball. But his stuff has been inconsistent, and part of that could be not working on a normal basis sometimes as a long man. But you've got to figure out a way to do that and be ready to pitch when you're called upon." The poor performance on Friday lifted Rogers' ERA from 4.94 to 6.39, though he has struck 8.4 batters per-nine innings this season.

Yankees could go with six-man rotation for a while
The New York Yankees begin a stretch on Friday of 30 games in 31 days, so manager Joe Girardi said the team is considering adding a sixth starter to the rotation, reports MLB.com."I wouldn't really call it a six-man rotation. I'd call it more of inserting a sixth man one time through, and my guess is you might see it," Girardi said. "Weather could play a role, so you just have to wait and see, but it's something that's in the back of our minds. New York Yankees pitcher Esmil Rogers tossed 4 2/3 innings and was pegged with the loss Friday night against Boston in 19 innings. Rogers allowed Xander Bogaerts to score the game-winning run on a Mookie Betts sacrificy fly in the top of the inning. He was charged with three runs -- two earned -- on six hits and one walk while striking out four in 6-5 defeat.Rogers, who threw 81 pitches after 35 on Thursday, told reporters he would have returned for another inning had the Yankees tied the game in the bottom of the frame."If we had tied the game right there, I was going to be back," Rogers said, per the Journal News. "I was going to give us the opportunity to win the game. That's why I'm here, to give us that opportunity."

Cashman: Adam Warren the favorite to win final spot in rotation
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday pitcher Adam Warren is the favorite to win the final spot in the team's rotation, per MLB.com. Cashman indicated Warren has a huge lead in the race over the remaining candidates -- Esmil Rogers, Bryan Mitchell, Chase Whitley and Scott Baker. "There is a Secretariat in the field," Cashman said, per the New York Post. "Right now, Warren’s got a big lead in this, but we don’t have to make that decision right now. As of right now, if we made the call today, it would be Warren." Warren is 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA through four spring starts. He has allowed four runs on 13 hits and no walks in 13 innings, while striking out six.

New York Yankees pitcher Esmil Rogers surrendered three earned runs on five hits and one walk in 3 1/3 innings while striking out three in his team's 7-3 loss to the Phillies Thursday. "I know I (allowed) a couple of base hits; I got a homer," Rogers said after the outing, per The Journal News. "I just try to pound the zone. That’s one of the keys I got in this spring training. Today I came in a couple of times behind in the count, and I’ve got to pay for that." Manager Joe Girardi indicated Wednesday that the race for the team's final rotation spot would reach another gear this time through the spring rotation. He spoke about the merits of Rogers Thursday. "Well, he’s got a good arm," Girardi said. "He’s got four pitches that he can go to, so he’s got a couple of different breaking balls and a changeup, so it allows him to get right handers and left handers out. Larry (Rothschild)’s tried to make subtle changes to come of his mechanics to give him more consistency. It’s there, it just comes down to consistently making pitches. This was a position player who made a change, so sometimes those guys bloom a little later."

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Wednesday that the competition for the fifth starting spot in the rotation begins in earnest with this trip through the rotation, MLB.com reports. "The competition is on now, in a sense," Girardi said. "These guys are competing for jobs. Even though they probably felt they already were before, this is when we're really going to start paying attention to it." Esmil Rogers is scheduled to take the mound Thursday against the Phillies, while Adam Warren is slated to make his case Friday against the Tigers. Girardi added that he expects Bryan Mitchell to get at least one more start but was less commital on Chase Whitley or Scott Baker getting another look in the rotation.

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi named pitcher Esmil Rogers one of four candidates for the team's open rotation spot Wednesday but said the pitcher has looked particularly good, NJ.com reports. "He's throwing the ball really well," Girardi said. "Larry worked with him long and hard last year during some bullpen sessions about changing a few things and I thought he pitched pretty well for us. He's started in his career. He's got a number of pitches he could go to. He's been really good this spring. So he'll be one of the guys we're really looking at." Adam Warren, Bryan Mitchell and Scott Baker are also potential candidates for the last rotation spot.

Yankees eye Esmil Rogers in role of long reliever/spot starter
New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Thursday he would like Esmil Rogers to fill the role David Phelps had in 2014 as a long reliever and spot starter, per ESPN. "We think he’s got good stuff," Girardi said. "It’s learning how to use it and become more consistent. He’s got velocity, he’s got a good breaking ball, he's got a changeup. He has the ability to pitch. We feel he can do a lot of different things. He gives us a lot of flexibility, which is good. We like having that on our pitching staff, because you never know when something’s going to pop up."
