    John Mayberry: Released by Tigers

John Mayberry was released by the Tigers on Friday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.Mayberry had a terrible spring, hitting just .119/.213/.238 with one home run and two RBI, leading to his release from Detroit. The 32-year-old hasn't hit above .230 since 2012, and lacks any significant power or speed, so he is unlikely to provide much fantasy value in 2016.

Tigers' John Mayberry: Optioned to minor league camp

The Detroit Tigers optioned John Mayberry to minor league camp Sunday.Mayberry has toggled between the majors and minors with a handful of organizations over the past two seasons, relegating the outfielder to a minor league contract and invite to spring training with the Tigers this year. He didn't do himself any favors with a .122/.217/.244 line and five walks versus 13 strikeouts in 41 Grapefruit League at-bats this spring. Thus, he'll likely open the season at Triple-A Toledo as organizational depth for the Tigers' outfield.

Tigers' John Mayberry: Going to spring training with Tigers

John Mayberry signed a minor league deal with the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, which includes an invite to spring training, Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports. The 32-year-old outfielder has a .260/.315/.517 career slash line against lefties, but he was ineffective against both hands last season, hitting .164 with three home runs in 119 plate appearances with the Mets. Cameron Maybin, Anthony Gose and J.D. Martinez figure to be the starters in the outfield for the Tigers, but Gose (career .202 hitter against lefties) could use a platoon partner, which would be where Mayberry fits in if he is able to make the team out of spring training. Otherwise he will just be an organizational soldier at Triple-A to start the year.
