Braves' Alex Torres: Released by Braves
Alex Torres was released by the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, David O'Brain of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. After Torres was reassigned to the Braves' minor league camp on Monday, he was released on Wednesday. Last season the left-handed reliever pitched 34.1 innings for the Mets before the Braves signed him to a minor league deal in the offseason. Torres had the potential to play in the majors this season but general manager John Coppolella stated that Torres was "just not a good fit." With past major-league experience, the 28-year-old would be a nice fit for a team looking to bolster their left-handed depth in the bullpen.

Braves' Alex Torres: Reassigned to minor league camp Monday
Alex Torres was reassigned to minor league camp Monday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. This comes as a surprise to many, as the Atlanta Braves are fairly thin in the department of left-handed pitchers and since Torres has pitched fairy well in the majors in recent seasons. Although he'll head to the minors to begin the season, Torres could very well wind up with the major league club early on in the season if another member of the bullpen goes down due to injury.

Braves' Alex Torres: Inks minor league deal with Braves
Alex Torres signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday that includes an invite to spring training, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports.Torres spent time in the majors with the Mets in 2015, where he accumulated an ERA of 3.15 over 34.1 innings. Mets' Alderson comfortable with pitching depth after Blevins injury
New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said he's comfortable with the team's pitching depth in the wake of the injury to Jerry Blevins, due to the development of several pitchers and the presence of Alex Torres, who like Blevins was acquired just before the start of the regular season, NJ.com reports. "[Blevins has] been great for the first couple of weeks of the season, and we'll expect he'll be great when he comes back," Alderson said. "In the meantime, somebody else is going to have to step up. Although we've lost Jerry, we still have far more depth than we had say mid-spring training, just because of the development of a couple of the guys and the fact that we also have Alex Torres." Though the Mets' bullpen has pieced together a mediocre 3.38 ERA in the first two weeks of the season, hitters have just a .174 batting average against Mets relievers, which is third best in the majors. The Mets will replace Blevins in the bullpen with righty Hansel Robles, who has struck out 10 batters while tossing 7 2/3 scoreless innings with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Mets acquire left-handed reliever Alex Torres in trade with Padres
The New York Mets acquired left-handed reliever Alex Torres from the San Diego Padres on Monday. The Padres acquired pitcher Cory Mazzoni and a player to be named later in the trade. Torres arrived in San Diego last January in a trade with Tampa Bay. He went 2-1 with a 3.33 ERA in 70 relief outings for the Padres in 2014. He is 7-4 with a 2.55 ERA over three MLB seasons.
