Rockies' Jeff Bianchi: Signs minor league contract with Rockies on Friday

Jeff Bianchi signed a minor league contract with the Colorado Rockies on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.Given that Trevor Story will be the Opening Day starter for the Rockies, Colorado suddenly needed organizational depth at shortstop, prompting them to sign Bianchi. The 29-year-old has appeared in the majors each of the past four seasons, although he has been somewhat of an offensive liability. His only chance to reach the major leagues would be in the event of the Rockies infield getting plagued with injuries.
