    Josh Beckett announces plans to retire

    Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett announced his retirement after the Dodgers were eliminated from the playoffs Tuesday night, MLB.com reports. Beckett, who last pitched on Aug. 3, had his final season end prematurely due to a torn labrum in his hip. "I just don't see me going through that rehab and coming back to pitch at this point in my life," he said. Beckett delivered a 2.88 ERA and 107:39 K:BB ratio in 115 2/3 innings during his final season. He ends his career with a 138-106 record, 3.88 ERA and 1,901 strikeouts in 2,051 innings. He was named the MVP of the 2003 World Series while pitching for the Marlins and was part of two World Series titles with the 2003 Marlins and 2007 Red Sox.

    Josh Beckett transferred to 60-day disabled list

    The Los Angeles Dodgers cleared a 40-man roster spot Saturday by transferring pitcher Josh Beckett to the 60-day disabled list. Beckett has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season, so the move is strictly procedural.

    Josh Becket out for season, maybe beyond

    Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett confirmed that he is out for the season Friday due to a hip injury, and he told reporters this injury might just bring his career to an end. Beckett will be 35 next May, and has required surgeries at the end of each of the last two seasons. He told reporters he is still contemplating his future, but will require hip surgery regardless of whether he plays next season or not.  "I certainly have plans if I decide not to play next year," he said, via the Orange County Register. "I'll leave it at that." Beckett is a free agent this offseason, after tossing 115 2/3 innings with a 2.88 ERA in 2014.

    Any optimism regarding Los Angeles Dodgers veteran starter Josh Beckett pitching again this season has vanished. Don Mattingly told the Orange County Register that it's "probably not very possible" that Beckett will throw another pitch this season. He has been out for a month with a hip injury after compiling a 6-6 record and 2.88 ERA. The 34-yeear-old Beckett could opt for surgery to repair the damaged hip.

    Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett has yet to resume throwing after going on the disabled list in early August with a hip impingement, MLB.com reports. "At this point, he's been out a little bit," manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday. "It's going to take him awhile before he can start throwing. Once that happens, it's going to take him a little while to get built up. Is there going to be enough time? I'm not sure." It's looking more and more likely that Beckett won't be able to return to the mound this season, though the team has yet to rule him out officially.
