Kevin Gregg opts out of deal with Mariners
Seattle Mariners pitcher Kevin Gregg opted out of his minor league contract with Triple-A Tacoma, after he wasn't called up to the MLB club. Gregg was signed by the Mariners on May 20. He had a 2.89 ERA in seven games at Tacoma. He becomes a free agent.

Report: Mariners sign RP Kevin Gregg to minors deal
The Seattle Mariners have signed right-hander reliever Kevin Gregg to a minor league deal, the Seattle Times is reporting. The team has not announced the deal. Gregg was designated for assignment by the Reds on May 11 after struggling mightely in 11 appearances out of the bullpen this season. On the year, Gregg has allowed 12 earned runs in 10 2/3 innings. For now, he will report to the Mariners' Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma.

Reds designate RP Kevin Gregg for assignment
The Cincinnati Reds announced Monday they have designated reliever Kevin Gregg for assignment and recalled pitcher Pedro Villarreal from Triple-A Louisville. "His stuff looked good, he had velocity and the split-finger and the breaking ball and it just never came to -- even from, unfortunately, Opening Day with the two-run homer to tie the game," manager Bryan Price said. "That was very difficult. Sometimes it's tough to chase that off. He's a professional, he's a great guy, he's a tremendous worker. He was doing everything he could to get back on top, but it just didn't happen and now he'll be on his way to the next opportunity." Gregg appeared in 11 games for the Reds this season, compiling an 0-2 record and 10.13 ERA. He allowed three home runs in just 10 2/3 innings of work. "It's unfortunate. I know that the fans never got to see the best of Kevin," Price said. "We felt that in the six weeks that we had him in Spring Training that he was a guy who could pitch the eighth inning for us with his background as a setup man and a closer." Villareal has no record and a 10.13 ERA in two games with the Reds this season, and was 0-0 with a 4.26 ERA in Louisville.

Reds' Price might take Kevin Gregg out of eighth-inning role
After a rough outing for Cincinnati Reds pitcher Kevin Gregg on Monday, manager Bryan Price was asked if Gregg would be the guy in the eighth inning going forward. “He may be. He may not be,” Price replied. “It just depends on who I have healthy and who is down there. He’s a guy who is experienced as a closer, a setup man and a starter. He’s a guy who has been a lot tighter situations than that over the course of his career. As I’ve told you, the bullpen will be ever evolving. These guys will cut out their roles based on how they perform,” per mlblogs.com. Price acknowldeged that some adjustments will have to be made in the bullpen. “Once the eighth inning becomes a situational inning, it becomes a challenge,” Price said. “We went into that game anticipating him pitching the eighth inning. It didn’t go as well as we had anticipated. The eighth inning isn’t really a matchup inning. We really had hoped that it would be a clean inning and it wasn’t, so I had to make some adjustments there.” Price added that pitchers Jumbo Diaz and Tony Cingrani could be in the late-inning mix.

Reds pitcher Kevin Gregg struggles in debut Monday
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Kevin Gregg didn't produce the debut he was hoping for Monday against the Pirates. Gregg came on in relief on starter Johnny Cueto and surrendered a two-run home run to center fielder Andrew McCutchen. "If you go back and look at the location of the pitch, you'll see it wasn't located that bad. They were obviously jumping on my stuff early," Gregg said to MLB.com. Manager Bryan Price was hoping for better from the non-roster invitee to spring training. "I'm always surprised because you don't anticipate guys going in there and scuffling, but it's part of the game," Price said. "We're trying to define our bullpen [roles] as best as possible. The only way to do that is for these guys to go out and pitch."

Chris Dominguez earns spot on Opening Day roster
Cincinnati Reds infielder Chris Dominguez was informed Wednesday that he has made the team's 25-man roster for Opening Day, MLB.com reports. "Certainly the offense stood out with the power and the extra-base hits," manager Bryan Price said. "His defense in the last six weeks has really greatly improved, particularly in the infield. And he brings energy into everything he does, from the drills outside to a pinch-hit at-bat to coming in the last three innings of a spring training game." Dominguez hit .316/.322/.596 with three home runs and 14 RBI in 57 spring at-bats. The versatile bench player saw at least 15 appearances each at first base, third base and shortstop as well as in left field and right field with Triple-A Fresno last season. Dominguez joins outfielder Brennan Boesch and pitchers Jason Marquis and Kevin Gregg as nonroster invitees to earn spots on the Opening Day roster.

Reds finalize bullpen for start of season
With the surprising demotion of reliever Sam LeCure to the minors Thursday, the Cincinnati Reds' Opening Day bullpen is set. It will feature closer Aroldis Chapman, Burke Badenhop, Kevin Gregg, Jumbo Diaz, Tony Cingrani, Manny Parra and J.J. Hoover, per MLB.com. Gregg was the only non-roster invitee among the group.

Reds' Kevin Gregg hoping to win a spot in the bullpen
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Kevin Gregg is hoping to win a spot in the team's bullpen, according to MLB.com. Gregg may be 36-years-old, but understands he still needs to prove himself. "I don't mind coming in and earning a spot," he said. "I'm coming off elbow surgery. At this point in my career, it's something I need to do." Gregg had bone chips removed from his elbow in August, but was able to hit 92 mph in a showcase in February. He believes his velocity has improved since then. Manager Bryan Price had good things to say about Gregg thus far. "He looks great. He looks durable," Price said. "He's got hand speed. He's crisp with his location. I've been extremely impressed with Kevin to this point." The 36-year-old tossed just nine innings in the majors last year.

Reds sign Burke Badenhop, Kevin Gregg; DFA Ismael Guillon
The Cincinnati Reds announced several roster moves on Saturday, per the team's official website. The team signed right-hander Burke Badenhop to a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2016. In a corresponding move, Cincinnati also designated left-hander Ismael Guillon for assignment, and signed right-hander Kevin Gregg to a minor-league deal with a spring training invite. Badenhop pitched for the Red Sox in 2014, registering a 2.29 ERA over 70 2/3 innings of work. Gregg last pitched for the Marlins in 2014. He allowed 10 earned runs, including 10 home runs in nine innings of work with Miami.

Marlins activate two from DL, move one to 60-day DL
The Miami Marlins announced several roster moves prior to Monday's game against the Mets. The team reinstated pitchers Carter Capps and Dan Jennings from the disabled list. They also transferred pitcher Kevin Gregg to the 60-day disabled list.
