Barry Zito formally announced his retirement Monday. This season had long been expected to be Zito's last, but the 37-year-old only made it official Monday. Athletics pitcher Barry Zito allows two runs Wednesday

Oakland Athletics pitcher Barry Zito lasted four innings in Wednesday's start against the Los Angeles Angels, giving up two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two.Hey, it's an improvement over Saturday's start against the San Francisco Giants -- he lasted two more innings and gave up two fewer runs while recording his first strikeouts of the year. This will likely wrap up the 37-year-old's 2015 campaign, a season in which he pitched exactly seven innings in the majors after 24 games (22 starts) of mediocre work in Triple-A.

A's pitcher Barry Zito set to start Wednesday vs. Angels

Oakland Athletics pitcher Barry Zito will start Wednesday's game in place of Sonny Gray (hip), the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher reports. Zito will reportedly be permitted to throw as many as 70 pitches, depending on how the game goes, after he made an abbreviated start Saturday. He represents a particularly low-upside fantasy option on the road against the Angels.

A's pitcher Barry Zito to make first start since 2013 on Saturday

Oakland Athletics pitcher Barry Zito will start Saturday's game against the Giants, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports. It will be a throwback outing, with Zito facing off against former teammate Tim Hudson. Manager Bob Melvin said Zito could maybe get up to 50 pitches Saturday, so he won't be a great option for fantasy owners chasing strikeouts and/or wins.
