    Maikel Cleto was released by the Cubs on Monday, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.It was a rough spring for Cleto, who surrendered eight runs across just three innings of work, allowing nine hits while walking three and striking out two. The 27-year-old owns a career 6.60 ERA in 45 major league innings, so he'll serve as nothing more than organizational depth wherever he's able to catch on.

    Maikel Cleto: Released by White Sox on Thursday

    Maikel Cleto was released by the White Sox on Thursday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.Cleto has been plagued by control issues during his times in the majors, and it appears that the White Sox have had enough of the reliever because of it. He is only 26 years old, though, and considering his solid showing with Triple-A Charlotte last season (3.00 ERA, 10.8 K/9), he could be swept up by another team very soon.

    White Sox's Maikel Cleto: Signs minor league deal with White Sox

    Maikel Cleto signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox, Baseball America reports.Control issues plagued Cleto during his time with the big club in 2014 and continued into spring training, leading to his outright assignment to Triple-A Charlotte just before the start of last season. He was able to overcome those issues to a significant extent with Charlotte (3.00 ERA, 10.8 K/9), but Cleto has more to prove to regain a spot on the 40-man roster.

    White Sox option Erik Johnson to Charlotte, make other moves

    The Chicago White Sox made a series of moves as they work toward putting together a 25-man roster.  Chicago optioned pitcher Erik Johnson and outrighted pitchers Maikel Cleto and Onelki Garcia to Triple-A Charlotte, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. They reassigned pitcher Jairo Asencio, outfielder Engel Beltre, catcher George Kottaras and pitcher Arcenio Leon to minor-league camp.  These moves give the White Sox 28 players left in major-league camp. The 40-man roster is not down to 37.

    Maikel Cleto added to White Sox bullpen

    The Chicago White Sox announced Monday they purchased the contract of reliever Maikel Cleto from Triple-A Charlotte. Cleto went 3-0 with a 5.91 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 22 relief appearances with the Knights. He threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings over his final five outings, which included 13 strikeouts.
