Angels' Hector Neris: Latches on with Halos
Hector Neris signed a minor-league contract with the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday.Neris was part of Atlanta's Opening Day roster but was quickly designated for assignment after he allowed five earned runs in one-plus innings over his first two appearances. Hector Neris: Enters open market
Hector Neris elected free agency Wednesday.Neris was DFA'd by Atlanta after giving up five runs in one-plus innings during the first series of the season, and he'll now test his luck in free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett. The 35-year-old finished the 2024 regular season with a 4.10 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across 59.1 innings between the Astros and Cubs, though his uninspiring start to '25 may make other teams hesitant to offer him an MLB deal.

Braves' Hector Neris: Making case for bullpen spot
Hector Neris gave up a hit and a walk over a scoreless inning in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. The veteran right-hander got the start on a bullpen day for Atlanta, and Neris was able to work around a Johan Rojas leadoff double. He's made only two spring appearances since signing an NRI deal in early March, but Neris has gotten up to speed fairly quickly and seems in line to begin the season with a spot on the 26-man roster, although he may work in middle relief rather than getting handed a setup role in front of closer Raisel Iglesias.

Astros' Hector Neris: First 2024 save with Houston
Hector Neris got the save in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Padres, allowing a walk and striking out a batter over a scoreless inning.Neris picked up his 18th save of the season but his first of the year with the Houston Astros after getting the ball in the 10th inning on the heels of Josh Hader recording the previous four outs. As he's done many times this season, Neris pitched his way into trouble, loading the bases with two outs before getting Manny Machado to ground out to end the game. Neris' reunion with the Astros has been a success so far, as he's posted a 2.53 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 9:2 K:BB in 10.2 innings over 11 appearances.

Hector Neris: Released by Cubs
The Cubs released Hector Neris on Tuesday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.Neris leads the Cubs with 17 saves this season and has posted a decent 3.89 ERA with 46 strikeouts over 44 innings. However, a 1.52 WHIP, a 13.3 percent walk rate and five blown saves left the team frustrated, and the Cubs have decided to move on from the veteran reliever, eating what remains of his $9 million salary. Neris should be able to latch on quickly with another team now that he can be had at the prorated minimum salary, but he's unlikely to be deployed in high-leverage spots at his next stop, at least not right away.
