Dodgers' Blake Snell: Joins reigning champs

Blake Snell signed a five-year, $182 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. After posting a 3.12 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 20 starts during his lone season with the Giants, Snell has now earned himself a long-term deal to stay in the NL West. The two-time Cy Young Award winner will be joining an already impressive Dodgers rotation that includes Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow (elbow) and Shohei Ohtani (shoulder).

Blake Snell: Free agent after declining option

Blake Snell declined his $30 million player option for 2025 on Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.Snell probably would have stuck around had he been forced to make his decision following a slow start to his 2024 campaign. However, after collecting a microscopic 1.23 ERA and 114:30 K:BB in 80.1 innings over his final 14 starts, hitting the free-agent market again was a no-brainer. Presumably, Snell will stand a better chance this time around at landing the lucrative, multi-year deal he looked for last winter.

Giants' Blake Snell: Fires another gem

Blake Snell (5-3) allowed two hits and a walk over six shutout frames Sunday, striking out nine and earning a win over the Royals.Snell did not allow a runner to reach scoring position in his dominant performance. He generated 12 whiffs on 88 total pitches and, at one point, struck out five straight batters. Snell has yielded two or fewer runs in eight consecutive starts, resulting in a terrific 1.31 ERA and 65:19 K:BB during that span. He owns a 3.12 ERA through 104 innings this season, but looking at his numbers since returning from the injured list July 9, that number drops to 1.23 through 80.1 frames. Snell's final start of the 2024 campaign is projected to be next weekend at home against the Cardinals.

His ERA is down to 3.31 across 98 innings this season with a 1.08 WHIP and 136:43 K:BB. Snell's currently in line for a road start this weekend against the Royals.

Giants' Blake Snell: Fans eight in third win

He struck out eight. Both walks and three of the four hits against Snell in the contest came over the first three innings. The lefty would then allow just one batter to reach over his final two frames while generating 17 swinging strikes on the night. The win was Snell's first since Aug. 7 against Washington, and he's now recorded eight or more strikeouts in eight of his last nine outings (excluding his previous start in which he was pulled after just one inning). Giants' Blake Snell: Pulled after one inning

Blake Snell did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks over one inning against the Diamondbacks. He struck out two.Snell needed 42 pitches to escape the first inning thanks to a combination of a lack of control along with a lack of help from his defense. Snell was not hit hard, with only one ball leaving the infield but was done in by an infield single, a couple of walks, a throwing error that led to one run and a passed ball on a strikeout that was to have represented the third out and instead resulted in a second run crossing the plate. Despite only allowing one earned run, Snell's outing was complete following the inning. He entered the game with a 1.30 ERA over his previous 10 appearances while having struck out 10 or more four times while allowing one run or less during seven of those performances. He's next slated to take the hill when the San Francisco Giants head to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers.

Giants' Blake Snell: Sharp in no-decision

Blake Snell allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out eight over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Marlins on Friday. After a mixed bag in Seattle for his last start -- three hitless innings with two runs allowed on six walks -- Snell was back in control Friday. The southpaw has earned a quality start in eight of his last nine outings, though this was just the third time in that span he's limited opponents to one walk or fewer. Snell has been nearly untouchable since the start of July and now has a 3.56 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 114:37 K:BB through 86 innings over 16 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Diamondbacks.

Giants' Blake Snell: Controls deserts him Saturday

Blake Snell came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Mariners, giving up two runs over three no-hit innings. He walked six and struck out five. The southpaw needed 74 pitches (42 strikes) to record only nine outs in his shortest outing since April 8. Snell hasn't walked more than three batters in a start since May 22 and he hadn't struck out fewer than eight since July 22, with Saturday's poor performance snapping a seven-game quality start streak in which he'd posted a 1.14 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 67:13 K:BB in 47.1 innings. Snell will look to shake this one off in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Marlins.

Giants' Blake Snell: Posts another dominant outing

Blake Snell did not factor into the decision in Sunday's win over the Athletics, allowing one run on six hits and two walks while striking out 10 over seven innings.Snell was engaged in a pitcher's duel with JP Sears for much of the game. The first run was eventually scored by the Athletics in the sixth inning and that's all Snell would give up. He did find himself in a bases loaded jam in the seventh with one out but was able to get out of it unharmed. Over his last eight starts, Snell has posted a 1.03 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 70:16 K:BB in 52.1 innings. He leads MLB starting pitchers in ERA and is tied for first in WHIP over that span. Snell also has double-digit strikeouts in four of his last five starts. For the year, the 31-year-old owns a 3.67 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 101:30 K:BB in 76 innings. He lines up for a home matchup against the Mariners his next time out.

Giants' Blake Snell: Fans 11 in another quality start

Blake Snell pitched 6.1 scoreless innings against Atlanta on Monday, allowing two hits and walking three batters while striking out 11.Snell's excellence was on par with that of opposing starter Chris Sale, who fired seven scoreless frames with 12 punchouts. Snell didn't go quite as deep into the contest as Sale due to his 114 pitches, but he nonetheless recorded his sixth straight quality start after failing to accomplish that feat over his initial seven contests of the campaign. Snell struggled to begin his tenure with San Francisco and then missed over a month from early June to early July due to a groin strain. Since returning from that injury, the southpaw has been dominant, posting a 0.99 ERA, 0.62 WHIP and 60:14 K:BB over 45.1 frames.
