Dodgers' Blake Snell: Will likely start stateside opener
Blake Snell is slated to pitch in one of two exhibition games in Tokyo, Japan on March 15 and 16, and Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts implied that the southpaw will start the team's home regular-season opener in Los Angeles on March 27, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.A pair of Japanese-born hurlers -- Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki -- have been tabbed to start for the Dodgers in the regular-season-opening two-game series against the Cubs in Tokyo on March 18 and 19, but it doesn't appear that either of those pitchers will get the ball again for the team's stateside opener against Detroit on March 27. Instead, Snell is likely to get the call for that contest after joining Los Angeles on a five-year, $182 million contract in late November. Snell made his second spring start Sunday against the Athletics and gave up four runs on five hits over 3.2 innings, but he struck out five batters, averaged 95.2 mph on his fastball and threw 67 pitches, so he appears to be ramping up well for the regular season.

Dodgers' Blake Snell: Hurls scoreless frame in LA debut
Blake Snell threw one scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in a Cactus League contest against Seattle on Tuesday.Snell threw at least eight pitches to three of the four batters he faced, so he racked up a hearty pitch count of 30 despite allowing just one baserunner. Per Statcast, the lefty's fastball sat at 95-to-96 mph, which is right in line with where it's been over the past several seasons. After signing a five-year contract in November, Snell is slated to be part of a revamped Los Angeles Dodgers rotation that, on paper, looks to be one of the best in the big leagues.

Dodgers' Blake Snell: Debuting with Dodgers on Tuesday
Blake Snell will pitch for the first time this spring Tuesday against Seattle, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.Snell joined the Los Angeles Dodgers on a five-year contract in November and is set to be a key figure in the team's revamped rotation. The two-time Cy Young Award winner bounced back from a rough beginning with the Giants last year to finish with a 3.12 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 145:44 K:BB over 104 innings. Snell is unlikely to go more than an inning or two in his spring debut Tuesday. He's not expected to start in either of Los Angeles' two Tokyo games against the Cubs to kick off the MLB regular season, but manager Dave Roberts has indicated that Snell will pitch in one of the team's two exhibition games in Japan versus teams from the Nippon Professional Baseball Organization, per Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register.

Blake Snell: Free agent after declining option
Blake Snell declined his $30 million player option for 2025 on Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.Snell probably would have stuck around had he been forced to make his decision following a slow start to his 2024 campaign. However, after collecting a microscopic 1.23 ERA and 114:30 K:BB in 80.1 innings over his final 14 starts, hitting the free-agent market again was a no-brainer. Presumably, Snell will stand a better chance this time around at landing the lucrative, multi-year deal he looked for last winter.

Giants' Blake Snell: Fires another gem
Blake Snell (5-3) allowed two hits and a walk over six shutout frames Sunday, striking out nine and earning a win over the Royals.Snell did not allow a runner to reach scoring position in his dominant performance. He generated 12 whiffs on 88 total pitches and, at one point, struck out five straight batters. Snell has yielded two or fewer runs in eight consecutive starts, resulting in a terrific 1.31 ERA and 65:19 K:BB during that span. He owns a 3.12 ERA through 104 innings this season, but looking at his numbers since returning from the injured list July 9, that number drops to 1.23 through 80.1 frames. Snell's final start of the 2024 campaign is projected to be next weekend at home against the Cardinals.

Giants' Blake Snell: Pulled after one inning
Blake Snell did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks over one inning against the Diamondbacks. He struck out two.Snell needed 42 pitches to escape the first inning thanks to a combination of a lack of control along with a lack of help from his defense. Snell was not hit hard, with only one ball leaving the infield but was done in by an infield single, a couple of walks, a throwing error that led to one run and a passed ball on a strikeout that was to have represented the third out and instead resulted in a second run crossing the plate. Despite only allowing one earned run, Snell's outing was complete following the inning. He entered the game with a 1.30 ERA over his previous 10 appearances while having struck out 10 or more four times while allowing one run or less during seven of those performances. He's next slated to take the hill when the San Francisco Giants head to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers.

Snell has been nearly untouchable since the start of July and now has a 3.56 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 114:37 K:BB through 86 innings over 16 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Diamondbacks.
