    Paco Rodriguez: Released by Braves

Paco Rodriguez was released by the Braves on Tuesday, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien reports. The lefty reliever was acquired from the Dodgers as part of the three-team July 2015 trade that brought outfielder Hector Olivera to the Braves from Los Angeles. Braves' Paco Rodriguez: Healthy to begin spring

Paco Rodriguez appears healthy to begin the spring as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery in September of 2015, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The Atlanta Braves could use a second lefty in their bullpen behind Ian Krol, and for now Rodriguez appears to be the favorite for the job if he has no setbacks in his recovery. He hasn't pitched since the surgery and has a lot of rust to get rid of, but the 25-year-old's career 9.6 K/9 rate indicates that he can be effective as a LOOGY despite a fastball that rarely touches 90 mph.

Paco Rodriguez avoided arbitration with the Atlanta Braves by agreeing to a one-year deal on Friday.Rodriguez missed the entire 2016 season due to Tommy John surgery in September 2015. He should certainly factor into Atlanta's left-handed depth in the bullpen in 2017, but how big of a factor depends on when he can return to the mound and if he's able to show the same lefty-killing stuff he showed before the surgery with the Dodgers.

Braves land gems Hector Olivera, Paco Rodriguez from Dodgers

The Atlanta Braves have sent starting pitchers Alex Wood and Bronson Arroyo, as well as closer Jim Johnson to the Dodgers in a three-way trade that brought several prospects. Atlanta gets infielder Hector Olivera, left-hander Paco Rodriguez and right-hander Zachary Bird from Los Angeles, as well as the Marlins' competitive-balance draft pick in 2016. The prizes in the trade are Olivera and Rodriguez. The former is batting .348 at Triple-A Olahoma City this season while the latter pitched in 18 games for the Dodgers earlier this year and recorded a 2.61 ERA. Bird has struggled throughout his minor league career, but does have 95 strikeouts in 89 1/3 innings this year for Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga. The Dodgers sent several prospects to both teams. First baseman Hector Olivera, lefty Paco Rodriguez and starting pitcher Zachary Bird head to Atlanta while pitchers Victor Araujo and Angel Guzman go to Miami.
