Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Designated for assignment
Noe Ramirez was designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. After logging back-to-back seasons with a 3.00 ERA in 2020 and 2021, Ramirez has not been able to replicate that success this year. Following his appearance Tuesday that saw him give up three earned runs over one inning, Ramirez's ERA climbed to 5.22. If Ramirez is not claimed off waivers by another team, he could likely finish the season in Triple-A.

Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Earns high-leverage hold
Noe Ramirez struck out three over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn his 10th hold in Sunday's 13-1 win over the Phillies.Arizona manager Torey Lovullo planned to use Ramirez during a bullpen day, but his entrance coincided with the highest-leverage spot of the game. The Arizona Diamondbacks were ahead 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Philadelphia loaded the bases against Caleb Smith. In came Ramirez, who struck out Nick Castellanos and J.T. Realmuto to squelch the threat. It's been a rocky June for Ramirez, who gave up eight runs, 10 hits and three home runs over his previous four appearances, but the unflappable right-hander looked very much like the trusted reliever that posted a 2.76 ERA over 36 appearances out of Arizona's bullpen in 2021.

Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Claims first save
Noe Ramirez allowed an unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out one in a third of an inning to earn the save in Thursday's 8-7 win over the Phillies. The Arizona Diamondbacks entered the ninth inning with an 8-2 lead, but shaky relief pitching and two fielding errors let Philadelphia back in. It was 8-5 with one runner on and two out when Ramirez took the mound. He walked the first batter he faced, followed by a passed ball and a two-run single, but he finally closed out the game with a three-pitch strikeout (all changeups) of Brad Miller. It was Ramirez's first save of the season and second of his career. It's unclear why manager Torey Lovullo eschewed Tyler Clippard for the save chance.

Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Loses velo mid-outing
Noe Ramirez has experienced diminished fastball velocity during his last two appearances, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.Ramirez recently returned from a three-week stay on the injured list due to a positive coronavirus test. The drop in velocity presented itself the deeper he got into an outing. The first time happened in Colorado on Saturday, the second of back-to-back days. It happened again Monday when he issued three walks. Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo didn't view this as related to the illness, but rather, a mechanical issue.
