Athletics' Aledmys Diaz: Jettisoned by Oakland
The Oakland Athletics designated Aledmys Diaz for assignment Tuesday.Diaz has gone just 3-for-29 in 12 games with the A's this season, and his poor performance has now officially caused him to lose his 40-man roster spot. The 33-year-old owns just a .621 OPS over 32 plate appearances in the minors this season, making it likely he passes through waivers unclaimed. Brett Harris was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move.

Athletics' Aledmys Diaz: Sees time at hot corner Thursday
Aledmys Diaz drew a start at third base in Thursday's loss to the Royals, going 1-for-2 before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning. The veteran drew only his fifth start of June and delivered his third hit of the season across 24 plate appearances. Diaz began the month logging what was a third straight start at the time, but his sparse playing time since and advanced age may imply he's not much longer for the roster of an Oakland Athletics team that will increasingly focus on developing young players as the remainder of the season unfolds.

Athletics' Aledmys Diaz: Gets rare playing time Sunday
Aledmys Diaz started at second base in Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays and went 1-for-4 with a run.Diaz drew his first start since June 1 and his fourth overall since being activated from the injured list May 28. The veteran's single was only his second hit in that span, and Diaz figures to continue seeing sporadic playing time moving forward as long as Zack Gelof and Max Schuemann are healthy in the middle infield.

Athletics' Aledmys Diaz: Time off after back-to-back games
Aledmys Diaz (calf) appeared in back-to-back rehab games with Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday before receiving Sunday off.Diaz played seven innings at third base in Friday's game against El Paso before walking in his only plate appearance as the designated hitter Saturday. There's been no report of an aggravation of the injury to explain why Diaz was in the game for such a brief time Saturday, and he was then out of the lineup Sunday before the team's off day Monday. The Aviators also saw their scheduled game against Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday postponed due to rain, so Diaz will have had some extra rest if he does return to the lineup for the Aviators on Wednesday.
