Rockies' Jake Cave: Sitting in second straight
Jake Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. After closing out the weekend series with the Dodgers with three consecutive starts, Cave looked to have moved into a strong-side platoon role in right field. However, the Colorado Rockies have since sent him to the bench for two straight games against right-handed pitchers, with Jordan Beck and Sam Hilliard having both picked up starts at the position. Rather than leaning on one player, Colorado may prefer to take a three-headed approach in right field over what's left of the season.

Rockies' Jake Cave: Regaining playing time vs. righties
Jake Cave will start in right field and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Dodgers.Cave has now started in five of the Colorado Rockies' last six matchups with right-handed starting pitchers and may have recaptured the strong side of a platoon in right field with the right-handed-hitting Jordan Beck. Since the beginning of August, Cave is getting on base at a modest .268 clip but has at least provided some pop (11 extra-base hits).

Rockies' Jake Cave: Starting Sunday, but losing work
Jake Cave will start in left field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Brewers.Though he'll be included in the lineup Sunday over a resting Nolan Jones, the lefty-hitting Cave was on the bench for three of the Colorado Rockies' previous four matchups with right-handers. The Rockies look to be prioritizing Jones and Jordan Beck as starters in the corner outfield ahead of Cave, a 31-year-old journeyman who is entering his final year of arbitration this winter and may be a non-tender candidate.

Rockies' Jake Cave: Getting fifth straight start
Jake Cave will start in right field and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Marlins. When Nolan Jones returned from the injured list Aug. 18, Jordan Beck appeared to have supplanted Cave for a regular role in the corner outfield, but the Colorado Rockies have since turned back to Cave as their preferred option versus right-handed pitching. He'll draw a fifth consecutive start after going 8-for-17 with a home run, two doubles, five RBI and three runs over the previous four contests.

Jake Cave went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 9-2 win over the Yankees.Cave was perfect at the plate, and a triple away from the cycle, before striking out in his final at-bat in the ninth inning. The 31-year-old continues to sit against left-handed pitching, but he has tallied three multi-hit efforts, three long balls and nine RBI over his past 10 games. On the year, he is hitting .262 with seven home runs, 34 RBI, 35 runs scored and five steals across 274 plate appearances.

Rockies' Jake Cave: Sitting again Wednesday
Jake Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals. The lefty-hitting Cave is on the bench for the third straight game, with the latter two absences coming against left-handed pitching. Even though Kris Bryant (back) recently returned to the injured list to open up a regular spot in right field, Cave may not be on track to handle a strong-side platoon role as the Colorado Rockies give a longer look to rookie Jordan Beck. Cave has been serviceable against right-handed pitching this season (96 wRC+, .324 wOBA), but he's a 31-year-old on an expiring contract who is unlikely to be prioritized by the non-contending Rockies down the stretch.
