Padres' Joe Beimel: Attempting comeback with Padres

Joe Beimel signed a minor-league contract with the San Diego Padres on Friday and will report to Double-A San Antonio, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. It would be quite the story if Beimel manages to crack the major-league roster at some point this season. He owns a respectable 4.06 ERA in 680 innings at the major-league level, but the last of those came all the way back in 2015. The lefty is now 44 years old but has apparently kept his arm fresh, as he was clocked in the mid-90s recently after never averaging 90 mph with his fastball in any of his 13 major-league seasons.

Mariners' Joe Beimel earns first save since 2009

Seattle Mariners reliever Joe Beimel pitched a perfect tenth inning to protect a one-run lead in Tuesday's win over Tampa Bay. Beimel earned his first save since June, 2009, with Washington. He's been with three MLB teams since then.  "I was very amped," Beimel said to MLB.com. "With the second hitter, I actually had to step back a little bit and realize, 'Hey, you're in the game right now and still pitching. Don't let the adrenaline overtake you and control you.' If you use adrenaline, it's good. But if you let it run you and you're throwing pitches up there you're not supposed to be throwing, it's not a good thing."
