Nick Pivetta (5-11) took the loss Tuesday against the Rays, allowing four runs on five hits and no walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out six.After posting three consecutive quality starts, the 31-year-old allowed three home runs in an outing for the first time since May 8 at Atlanta. Thankfully, Pivetta limited the damage by firing his first walk-free start since July 24 and giving up all solo shots. After pitching to a 3.81 ERA across 87.1 innings before the All-Star break, the Boston right-hander has faded a bit in the second half, going 1-4 with a 4.78 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 64:12 K:BB across 52.2 innings. He lines up to make his next start against the Twins at home this weekend.

Nick Pivetta allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out nine batters over six innings in a no-decision against Baltimore on Wednesday.The only run Pivetta allowed came on an Emmanuel Rivera solo shot in the third inning. He struck out six during a win over the White Sox.Pivetta gave up a run in the second inning but was able to avoid any further damage despite some shaky command. Nick Pivetta (5-10) took the loss Saturday, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk over six innings, as the Boston Red Sox were downed 2-1 by the Tigers. He struck out six.The right-hander kept Boston in the game with his eighth quality start of the season, but Pivetta was matched up against AL Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal and came out on the losing end. Most encouragingly, Pivetta didn't serve up a homer after being taken deep 10 times over his five prior outings, a stretch in which he'd stumbled to a 7.50 ERA. Nick Pivetta is scheduled to pitch Monday, when the Boston Red Sox resume a game with the Blue Jays that was suspended in the second inning back on June 26, Chris Cotillo MassLive.com reports.Pivetta will technically be making his first relief appearance of the season Monday; Kutter Crawford picked up the start in the June 26 contest and worked 1.1 innings before the game was suspended due to inclement weather. Nick Pivetta will have his next start skipped and won't pitch this weekend against the Astros as previously scheduled in order to provide him some extra rest, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.The right-hander isn't dealing with an injury, but he's failed to cover five frames in two of his past three starts and has given up 13 runs (12 earned) in those three outings. Pivetta averaged 91.9 mph with his fastball during his previous start Sunday at Texas, which is down a couple ticks from his season average of 94.1 mph.
