Cornelius Randolph signed a minor-league contract with the Chicago White Sox on Monday.After the Phillies elected not to add him to the 40-man roster this winter, Randolph elected free agency and sat on the open market for several months before landing with the White Sox. Though he's only 24 years old and is a prospect of some pedigree as a 2015 first-round pick, Randolph didn't flash a fantasy friendly profile during his seven years in the Philadelphia organization. He spent the majority of the 2021 campaign at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, hitting .234 with five home runs and five stolen bases across 164 plate appearances.

Cornelius Randolph was placed on the injured list for Triple-A Lehigh Valley with a sprained elbow Saturday, Tom Housenick of The Morning Call reports.The 10th overall pick in the 2015 draft, Randolph hadn't shown much of anything over the past several seasons, hitting .249/.332/.368 from 2016 through 2019. He's been much better this season in his first taste of Triple-A, hitting .311/.378/.541 with four homers in 21 games. It's unclear how much time he'll miss, but he has a chance to make his big-league debut later this season if he maintains his strong performance once he returns.

Phillies' Cornelius Randolph: Turning things around in May
Cornelius Randolph is hitting better since the start of May, The Athletic Philadelphia reports.After a very poor April, Randolph is starting to put things together at Double-A Reading in May. In the season's second month, he's 8-for-26 with a .379 OBP and a .764 OPS. His slash line still sits at a miserable .196/.257/.272 through 26 games, but it's certainly not unheard of for a player to struggle in his first taste of Double-A -- especially one as young as Randolph, who doesn't turn 21 until June. The young outfielder has a long way to go before he lives up to his pedigree as the 10th overall pick in the 2015 draft, but his chances at least look better now than they did a few weeks ago.

Cornelius Randolph is off to a slow start in his first taste of Double-A ball, The Athletic Philadelphia reports.The 10th overall pick in the 2015 draft, Randolph has steadily moved up the levels despite not excelling at any one stop. In 122 games for High-A Clearwater last season, he posted a .250/.338/.402 line, good for a solid 118 wRC+. In 17 games for Double-A Reading this year, his line sits at just .159/.206/.238, which translates to a measly 29 wRC+. He can partially blame a low .209 BABIP, but he's also striking out 29.4 percent of the time with a walk rate of just 4.4 percent. Despite his draft pedigree, Randolph looks like little more than a bench bat. He'll have to turn things around in Reading or else even that outcome will seem unlikely.
