Giants to activate Jeremy Affeldt on Monday; expect to get Joe Panik back
San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said pitcher Jeremy Affeldt will be activated from the disabled list before Monday's game, reports the San Jose Mercury News. Affeldt was dealing with a knee issue, which landed him on the disabled list in August. Meanwhile, the team hopes to also have infielder Joe Panik back for Monday's game. Panik is on the DL with a back injury, which has kept him out since Aug. 1.

Giants RP Jeremy Affeldt placed on DL; Mike Broadway recalled
San Francisco Giants left-handed reliever Jeremy Affeldt was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday. The veteran pitcher is dealing with left knee subluxation. Affeldt missed time on the DL earlier this season due to a shoulder strain. Affeldt was told he has a torn ligament in his knee, but he is not expected to need surgery, and should be able to pitch again this season. To replace him on the roster, the Giants recalled right-hander Michael Broadway from Triple-A Sacramento.

Jeremy Affeldt takes loss vs. Nationals Sunday
San Francisco Giants pitcher Jeremy Affeldt took a loss Sunday, giving up four earned runs on five hits without recording an out in his team's 14-6 defeat against the Nationals. Affeldt (3-2) came into a game after a one-out home run in the sixth inning left the Giants with a 6-3 lead. He proceeded to add fuel to the fire, giving up a double and single before a wild pitch scored a run, then a single, a double and another single before being removed from the game. He owns a 2.72 ERA and 31:11 K:BB ratio in 46 1/3 innings after coming into Sunday's game with an ERA under 2.00.
