Giants' Kyle Harrison: Season likely over

San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday that Kyle Harrison (shoulder) is unlikely to be activated from the 15-day injured list before the season ends Sept. 29, MLB.com reports.Though the left shoulder inflammation that sent Harrison to the IL on Sept. 6 has been deemed mild following an MRI, the young southpaw won't be asked to ramp back up with little time left in the season. Harrison had already logged a career-high 124.1 innings prior to being deactivated, which is likely a factor in the organization's decision to shut him down. Over his 24 starts this season, Harrison went 7-7 with a 4.56 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 118:42 K:BB.

Giants' Kyle Harrison: Placed on IL with shoulder injury

The San Francisco Giants placed Kyle Harrison on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Wednesday, due to left shoulder inflammation.Harrison was roughed up in his last outing Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, when he allowed six runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three over 2.2 innings. He's given up 11 runs over his last two starts, and since the beginning of August he's posted a 7.76 ERA and 1.57 WHIP across 26.2 frames. Harrison will be eligible to return from the IL in mid-September, though it's unclear whether the injury is severe enough to shut the 23-year-old southpaw down for the rest of the season. Austin Warren was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.

Giants' Kyle Harrison: Lit up for six runs

Kyle Harrison (7-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three over 2.2 innings.Harrison was roughed up for a second straight outing and Tuesday's start was his shortest of the season. The Diamondbacks scored multiple runs in all three innings Harrison worked, which included a two-run homer by Randal Grichuk in the opening frame. Harrison has now allowed 11 runs over his last 7.1 innings and has just two quality starts since the beginning of July. For the year, he owns a 4.56 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 118:42 K:BB in 124.1 innings and lines up to face the Padres on the road over the weekend.

Giants' Kyle Harrison: Unravels in fifth inning

Kyle Harrison (7-6) allowed five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven over 4.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Brewers.Harrison had his last start skipped, and it appeared for a while that the extra rest had served him well. That changed in a rough fifth inning, which saw Harrison surrender five runs before he was pulled with two outs. The southpaw has given up 17 runs over 24 innings across five starts in August, a span that's seen him yield seven home runs. He's now at a 4.22 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 115:41 K:BB through 121.2 innings over 23 starts this year. He's already past his previous high of 113 innings in a season, set back in 2022, and if the San Francisco Giants drop much further out of the playoff race, there's a chance Harrison could be shut down at some point in September. He's tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Diamondbacks.

Giants' Kyle Harrison: Strong in seventh win

Kyle Harrison (7-5) allowed a run on five hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings to earn the win Monday over the White Sox.This was Harrison's first quality start over four outings in August, though facing the lowly White Sox worked in his favor. The southpaw has allowed 12 runs over 19.1 innings this month. For the season, he's at a 4.00 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 108:38 K:BB over 117 innings through 22 starts. Harrison's previous high for innings in a single year was 113 in 2022, but with the San Francisco Giants just hanging on in the wild-card race, it's unlikely he gets his workload managed any time soon. He's projected to make his next start on the road at light-hitting Seattle this weekend.

Giants' Kyle Harrison: Allows two homers

Kyle Harrison did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's loss to Atlanta, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings.Harrison surrendered two runs in the second, with one coming on a solo home run from Ramon Laureano. Travis d'Arnaud would then get a hold of one in the third for another solo blast to put Atlanta up 3-1. Harrison worked through another two scoreless frames before his night was over after 89 pitches. Since returning from injury July 6, Harrison has made it to six innings just once in seven starts and has given up six home runs over his last three outings. For the year, the 23-year-old lefty owns a 4.14 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 103:36 K:BB in 111 innings and lines up for a favorable matchup against the White Sox to begin next week.

Giants' Kyle Harrison: Alllows two runs, removed in fifth

Kyle Harrison did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits over 4.2 innings against the Nationals. He struck out three.Harrison rebounded after having given up four home runs in his previous start, allowing just two runs to cross the plate Thursday while avoiding the long ball for the sixth time in his last eight starts. Harrison remained in the game following a 50-minute rain delay in the top of the third but was removed with the bases empty and two outs in the fifth at just 61 pitches, a season-low total for the 22-year-old lefty. While there is no indication that an injury was the cause for his removal, Harrison did see a noticeable dip in his velocity with multiple fastballs failing to reach 90 mph. It's possible the San Francisco Giants will elect to give him extra rest, but as of now he looks to be on track to make his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to take place during next week's home series against Atlanta.

Giants' Kyle Harrison: Serves up four homers in 3.2 frames

Kyle Harrison (6-5) took the loss against Cincinnati on Saturday, allowing six runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four batters over 3.2 innings.Harrison had been pitching well coming into Saturday, giving up two runs over 17 innings across his previous three starts. However, he was hit hard by the Reds, with four of the six hits against him leaving the park. Two of those homers came during a disastrous fourth frame during which Harrison yielded four total hits and four runs. The four long balls were a season-worst mark for Harrison, and it was just the fourth time through 19 starts that he's surrendered multiple homers in an outing.

Giants' Kyle Harrison: Dominates Rockies again

Kyle Harrison (6-4) allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out a season-high 11 over 6.2 innings to earn the win Friday over the Rockies.Harrison's performance has taken a star turn in July -- he's allowed just two runs on seven hits and seven walks over his last 17 innings across three starts, although the lowly Rockies have been on the receiving end of two of those outings. The southpaw has a 3.69 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 90:33 K:BB through 97.2 innings over 18 starts this season. Harrison's career high in total innings is 113 from the 2022 season, so the San Francisco Giants may keep an eye on his workload even though they remain on the fringes of the playoff race. He's projected to make his next start on the road at Cincinnati.

Giants' Kyle Harrison: Holds Rockies scoreless

Kyle Harrison allowed a hit and four walks over five shutout frames in a no-decision Friday. He struck out six as the San Francisco Giants lost to Colorado. As is often the case, Harrison showed off his potential while struggling to hone his command. Only two Rockies reached scoring position against him and he never faced a significant threat. Harrison has allowed fewer than two runs in six of his 17 starts this year, but he's walked at least four on four occasions. The 22-year-old southpaw lowered his ERA to 3.86 with a 79:31 K:BB through 91 innings. Harrison's next outing is lined up to be a road matchup with the Dodgers.
