Pirates' Jalen Beeks: Grabs first save with Pittsburgh

Jalen Beeks earned the save in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Marlins, allowing one hit in one-third of an inning. After Aroldis Chapman pitched in Tuesday's contest, David Bednar was initially called upon to close out a 3-0 lead Wednesday. However, the Pittsburgh Pirates would turn to Beeks with two outs in the ninth to face the left-handed Kyle Stowers after Bednar gave up a run on a pair of hits. Beeks would allow an infield hit to Stowers that loaded the bases before inducing a flyout from Xavier Edwards to close out a two-run victory. It's the 10th save of the year for the 31-year-old Beeks, his first since joining the Pirates from the Rockies at the trade deadline. Beeks has pitched well for Pittsburgh, posting a 2.30 ERA across 15.2 innings, though he's still likely behind Chapman, Bednar and Dennis Santana in the Pirates' bullpen hierarchy.

Pirates' Jalen Beeks: Dealt to Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired Jalen Beeks from the Rockies on Monday in exchange for left-hander Luis Peralta, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.Beeks will head to Pittsburgh after compiling a 4.74 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 38 strikeouts over 49.1 innings in 45 appearances with the Rockies so far this season. The left-hander has made the full-time switch to being a relief pitcher in 2024, going 9-for-16 on save opportunities while also securing five holds with Colorado. Beeks may serve in more of a middle-innings role after joining a more talented bullpen in Pittsburgh.

Rockies' Jalen Beeks: Shaky in save

Jalen Beeks allowed two runs on three hits over one inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Reds.Victor Vodnik gave up a solo home run to lead off the ninth inning, creating a save situation. Beeks entered the contest and had trouble getting things under control, but he ultimately had enough runway to work with. Over his last seven appearances, Beeks has given up nine runs (eight earned) with a 5:1 K:BB over 7.2 innings, converting three of his five save chances in that span. He's at nine saves, five holds and six blown saves this season while pitching to a 4.40 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 34:17 K:BB through 45 innings overall. With a weak bullpen and a bottom-five record in the majors, save chances are likely to be limited for Colorado, and the team's committee approach makes it tough to roster any of its high-leverage options.

The 30-year-old has collected the last two Colorado saves and produced four straight outings without allowing an earned run over 5.1 innings. Rockies' Jalen Beeks: Notches fifth win

Jalen Beeks (5-4) blew the save and picked up the win Sunday against the White Sox, allowing an unearned run on two hits and zero walks while striking out one batter in two innings of work.Beeks came on in the 13th inning and allowed the ghost runner to score on an RBI single by Luis Robert, resulting in a blown save. The 30-year-old rebounded in the 14th inning, however, retiring the side in order to earn his fifth win of the season. Although Beeks was used in a high-leverage role Sunday, Tyler Kinley pitched two scoreless innings in the 11th and 12th and remains the preferred late-inning option for the Colorado Rockies. Beeks will continue to be in the mix for saves, but he is just 6-for-11 in save opportunities this season.

Rockies' Jalen Beeks: Can't convert save chance

Jalen Beeks (4-4) blew the save and took the loss Sunday against the Nationals, allowing two runs on three hits with a strikeout across one inning.Beeks was given his first save opportunity since June 5 but couldn't come through for his seventh save of the campaign. Colorado led 1-0 heading into the ninth inning, but Beeks yielded an RBI double to Lane Thomas that plated CJ Abrams -- who advanced to second on a wild pitch -- before allowing Thomas to steal third and score on a two-out single by Joey Meneses. Although Beeks is 6-for-11 on save chances, he owns a 3.76 ERA and should still be in the mix with Tyler Kinley for saves as part of a shaky Colorado Rockies bullpen.

Rockies' Jalen Beeks: Works eighth inning

Jalen Beeks struck out two without allowing a baserunner across a scoreless inning to earn a hold Saturday against the Cardinals.Beeks entered the game in the eighth inning for the second consecutive game, this time clearly in a setup role. He had served as the Colorado Rockies' closer for a month prior to allowing five earned runs Wednesday, though he had a disastrous 6.92 ERA and 1.92 WHIP across 13 games in that span. Save chances will likely continue to rotate through members of the team's bullpen, though it appears Tyler Kinley is first in line for the time being.
