Marlins' Javier Sanoja: Returns to bench role
Javier Sanoja is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers. After getting called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sept. 7, Sanoja proceeded to start in seven of the Miami Marlins' ensuing nine games, seeing time in left field, center field and both middle-infield spots during that stretch. However, with Xavier Edwards stepping back in as the Marlins' everyday shortstop and with Miami facing right-handers on consecutive days, Sanoja has found himself back on the bench for both contests. The rookie looks set to operate as a short-side platoon player for the duration of the season.

Marlins' Javier Sanoja: Picks up first big-league hits
Javier Sanoja went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Phillies.Making his first career big-league start and batting eighth as the center fielder, Sanoja led off the second inning with a double into the right-center field gap for his first career hit. The 22-year-old switched to shortstop late in the 10-1 rout, mirroring his minor-league utility usage -- at Triple-A Jacksonville he's played at least 39 games at second base, shortstop and in center field this season. That versatility also came with a .294/.356/.438 slash line, and while he offers little power from a 5-foot-7 frame, Sanoja's speed, hit tool and batting eye could be good enough for him to carve out a regular role in the majors.

Marlins' Javier Sanoja: Joins big-league club
The Miami Marlins selected Javier Sanoja's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday.Since earning a promotion to Triple-A in late April, Sanoja has slashed .294/.356/.438 with six homers and 59 RBI across 492 plate appearances with the Jumbo Shrimp. The 22-year-old's performance has earned him his first MLB call-up, and his ability to play in both the infield and outfield will help as he attempts to work his way into the starting lineup.

Marlins' Javier Sanoja: Impressing at Triple-A
Javier Sanoja holds a .316/.375/.447 slash line through 53 games with Triple-A Jacksonville this season with an eye-popping 22:11 BB:K.The 21-year-old led the Miami Marlins' organization with 156 hits in 2023 between Single-A and High-A, and after beginning the current campaign with Double-A Pensacola, he got bumped up to Triple-A after only 15 contests. The diminutive Sanoja draws Jose Altuve comparisons given his 5-foot-9, 150-pound frame, and while he can't be projected to hit for that kind of power in the majors, he did steal 37 bags last year, albeit in 59 attempts. His hit tool and plate discipline could at least allow him to emerge as a utility infielder for the Marlins.
