Marlins' Jesus Luzardo: Won't throw for six more weeks
Jesus Luzardo (back) will remain shut down from throwing for at least six more weeks, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.Luzardo had been participating in workouts throughout July that focused on strengthening his forearm and shoulder. Still, he's yet to throw since being placed on the injured list June 22, and he isn't particularly close to doing so. It's looking increasingly unlikely that Luzardo will pitch again in 2024, especially with the non-contending Miami Marlins having little at stake as the regular season winds down. Luzardo went 3-6 with a 5.00 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 58:22 K:BB over 66.2 innings before landing on the IL with a lumbar stress reaction.

Marlins' Jesus Luzardo: Taking part in strengthening work
Jesus Luzardo (back) has been participating in bike workouts and working on forearm and shoulder strengthening in recent weeks, MLB.com reports. While Luzardo hasn't been shut down from physical activity since landing on the injured list June 22 with a lumbar stress reaction, he's yet to resume throwing after nearly a month. The Miami Marlins transferred him to the 60-day injured list a day after placing him on the 15-day IL, so the club is already preparing for his absence to extend into the second half of August. A clearer target date for his return won't be available until he's ready to begin a minor-league rehab assignment.

Marlins' Jesus Luzardo: Moved to 60-day IL
The Miami Marlins transferred Jesus Luzardo (back) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.Manager Skip Schumaker said Saturday that Luzardo would likely be out for 4-to-6 weeks as a result of his lumbar stress reaction, but his move to the 60-day IL ensures that he'll out until at least Aug. 18. He will be joined on the 60-day IL by Edward Cabrera (shoulder), and the Marlins will bring up Kyle Tyler and Kent Emanuel from Triple-A to fill their open 40-man roster spots.

Marlins' Jesus Luzardo: Likely out 4-to-6 weeks
Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said that Jesus Luzardo, who was placed on the 15-day injured list earlier Saturday with a lumbar stress reaction, will likely be out for 4-to-6 weeks, the Associated Press reports.Luzardo's back issue cropped up during his previous start last Sunday in Washington, but he had been on track to start Saturday's game against the Mariners until the Marlins scratched him a day in advance. He was moved to the IL a day later, with Schumaker confirming prior to Saturday's contest that the southpaw will be sidelined through at least the All-Star break with the injury. With the Marlins shaping up as non-contenders this season, Luzardo had been a sought-after name on the trade market, but his uncertain health could limit other teams' interest leading up to the July 30 deadline. Luzardo owns a 5.00 ERA over 12 starts on the season, but he had shown improved form since late April with a 3.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB across 46.2 innings over his last eight outings.

Marlins' Jesus Luzardo: Headed to injured list
The Miami Marlins placed Jesus Luzardo on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to a lumbar stress reaction.Though he battled a stiff back in his most recent outing this past Sunday in Washington, Luzardo had been listed as the Marlins' starter for Saturday's game versus the Mariners. The southpaw evidently didn't bounce back as well from the back injury as the team had hoped, and he's since been scratched from the start and placed on the IL. Miami has recalled Shaun Anderson from Triple-A Jacksonville to make a spot start Saturday in Luzardo's stead. The 26-year-old will be eligible to return from the IL on July 4, but it's unclear if he'll be ready to go by that time.

Marlins' Jesus Luzardo: Missing Saturday's start
Jesus Luzardo (back) won't start Saturday's game against the Mariners, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.Luzardo experienced back tightness in his last start and was pulled after 77 pitches and showed decreased velocity. While the Miami Marlins initially listed Luzardo as their probable pitcher Saturday, they'll refrain from putting the 26-year-old lefty on the mound against Seattle and give him some extra rest. For now, Luzardo is scheduled to make his next start during a four-game series at Philadelphia next week.

Marlins' Jesus Luzardo: Battling stiff back
Jesus Luzardo said that he pitched through a stiff back in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Nationals, Bally Sports Florida reports. The southpaw got the hook after gutting out five innings and 77 pitches, but Luzardo clearly didn't have his best stuff, and his velocity was down about two miles per hour. The Miami Marlins haven't provided any indication that he will miss his next turn in the rotation, which lines up to come Saturday against the Mariners. A determination on Luzardo's status for that contest may not be made official until later in the week.

Marlins' Jesus Luzardo: Fans two in defeat
Jesus Luzardo (3-6) took the loss Sunday against Washington, allowing two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two in five innings pitched. The two runs charged to Luzardo were both solo home runs -- a first-inning shot by Lane Thomas followed by a fifth-inning blast courtesy of Jacob Young. Overall, Luzardo has compiled a disappointing 5.00 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and a 58:22 K:BB across 66.2 innings.
