Phillies' Jerome Williams picks up loss, blown save Saturday vs. Braves
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jerome Williams (4-11) took the loss and was also charged with a blown save in a 2-1 loss to the Braves. The former starter's struggles have followed him to the bullpen, with Williams surrendering a two-run, bases loaded double to Freddie Freeman that proved to be the winning runs for the Braves. Williams actually entered Saturday's contest with three consecutive scoreless relief appearances, and his pace of allowing homers has naturally slowed with the reduced amount of innings he is now pitching. However, Williams' track record as a starter would suggest that he eventually will falter more often than not.

Phillies SP Jerome Williams lets lead slip away in loss Tuesday
Philadelphia Phillies starter Jerome Williams looked to be on his way towards a victory, but a late Mets rally led to a 6-5 Phillies loss on Tuesday. Williams allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits over 5 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out five. Williams (4-10, 6.13 ERA) got off to a bad start, as he allowed a two-run home run to Yoenis Cespedes in the first inning. He gave up another run in the second, but the Phillies were able to grab the lead with a four-run third inning. Williams, however, got into more trouble in the sixth, when the Mets plated three runs to regain the lead, which they would not give up. After three straight starts of allowing one earned run, Williams has given up a total of 12 earned runs over seven innings in his most recent two outings.

Phillies SP Jerome Williams blasted out in second inning
The Philadelphia Phillies had a right to be encouraged lately by the work of embattled starter Jerome Williams. He arrived on the mound Thursday in Miami with three consecutive strong starts under his belt. Well, so much for encouragement. Williams was absolutely mashed by the Marlins. He barely survived the first inning before being bounced in the second. He finished having surrendered eight runs on eight hits and four walks in 1 2/3 innings in sending his ERA soaring to 6.10, the worst among qualifying starters in the majors. The exclamation points came courtesy of Martin Prado and Marcell Ozuna, whose blasts drove in all four runs in the second.
